I can see why Fernandes would want Beckham on board and I totally agree. Beckham's profile in the Far East is huge and if we were to get him it would probably mean more to the club than any other signing. Warnocks job is to secure our future on the pitch, but for Fernandes and Amit they have to increase our world wide exposure so that we start to make some real money. Until we can move to a new stadium then we will be losing money hand over fist, but the shirt sales a player like Beckham could generate would go a very long way to helping us balance the books and at the same time increase the clubs profile world wide. None of us want to become like Chelsea with fans that spend more time on their Blackberries than actually watching the game, but the fact is that every top team busts a gut to make sure the whole of Asia watches them play football on the other side of the world as Asian fans spend a lot of money on replica kits. So it might mean we have the occasional Japanese tourist at Loftus Road, or the Air Asia Mittal Stadium, but the more fans the better in my eye. This is the way of Premiership football nowadays and it's the only way for us to survive. So whether you think it's a good idea or not, get with the program and start singing........ We think David Beckham's magic, he wears a magic hat......
This is an intriging situation,i agree with all the marketing aspects of this deal and what it would do for us in the Far East, but would Warnock sign him out of choice wholly on his playing credentials given his age and the league in which he's been playing. If the answer is no,do we really want to go down the road again where the owners are the ones bringing in the players they think will make the club better!!
I know what you're saying, but I can see Warnock being happy with the deal as Beckham would be another level head and would be a great asset to have around the younger players. There is no player with more experience or such a high profile in the World and lets face it, Beckham at 36 would run harder and defend more than Adel at 21. Would rather have Beckham on for 20 mins when we're defending a lead than Adel.
My $0.02.... On the pitch: Beckham would work his metatarsals off (always has done) and when he gets the space he could still deliver from the wings and from dead-ball situations. But his pace isn't there and I worry about how effective his efforts would be. I fear that at Prem level, he'd be too easy to mark out of the game these days. Off the pitch: Having him around the dressing room and training pitch would impact our other players immensly - and pretty much all for good. I can't even start to think about the effect he would have, puttign an arm around Adel and woking with him on attitude and application. Some of the others will know him, and all of the younger players will want to work with him. As long as his wages aren't stupid (and aren't broadcast) there's no real downside. Even if he just comes and trains with us. Back-room: How many days can you remember, when Beckham hasn't been in the news? Either on tv, in the red-tops, the glossies or online, he's every-fricking-where. Imagine what the impact would be if the name of QPR appears everywhere he does. Imagine the advertising and sponsorship that would suddenly appear? Imagine the shirt and merchandising that would materialise? I'm not at all convinced that he would contribute too much on the pitch (well, not by his own playing efforts) but I can certainly see the advantages of having him around the place.
@tonyfernandez RT @Khairykj Big hint as to where I am & what I'm discussing. And its not me I want signed! @tonyfernandes @SafeeSali_10 http://t.co/mdM9A47 This was Tweeted two hours ago. This "Safee Sali" guy is the player all the Malaysian fans are mad on, he's got a good international record. How huge for marketing in asia would that be.. Malaysia's best player and becks? Can't help but think TF is maybe just making a show of being interested in these players, to keep the Asian fans keen. edit: The following tweet reveals that "Khairy Jamaluddin", the deputy president of the football association of Malaysia, is the guy encouraging TF to buy Malaysian players. Could be the guy who gave him the idea for Becks, too?
@Moose_talkSPORT Ian Abrahams Just checked with my source at QPR and there is no truth in the Beckham to QPR story - sorry Rangers fans
