But, and I know it's taking a while, here's my point. I refuse to recognise a transgender person living as a woman as anything other than a man with a mutilated penis (to paraphrase South Park). This person still had their penis but the court refers to him as "she" (I think you have to live as the opposite sex for 3 years or something). A series of genetic reactions occur as you are assigned your gender in the womb - to assume that this process is wrong and you are "trapped in the wrong body" should be treated as a mental issue - not a physical issue that doesn't conform to a misaligned mind. There you go, I probably count as prejudiced on this issue but I am now going to campaign to have my surgery on the NHS. I believe that I am a blue whale trapped in a homo sapiens body - I demand "corrective" surgery to transform me into a whale - starting with the walloper. And you'll all pay for it ya anti-whale bassas.

eh? No, this person is a man who requires counselling. Not a woman born with a cock. Black people are black people - white people who wish they were black or black people who think they are white are not what they wish they were. Everyone needs to come to terms with what they are. Not what they wish they were.
So, if I believe I'm a hermaphrodite trapped in a conventional man's body, should I have "corrective" surgery to "rectify" this. I appreciate people do this to feel more comfortable with who they are. I used to work with a guy who was living as a woman to get the surgery - after a couple of years, he decided he was just a normal gay man and didn't need to become a woman. Surely, sex change surgery is "correcting" biology to suit psychology.
It costs the NHS over £10 million a year. It doesn't affect your genetic makeup or your hormonal balance (you can take supplements for this, though). It's cosmetic - a transgender "woman" is not a real woman, it's a guy who has to chemically suppress his own hormones for the rest of his days. If short men were lining up to get operations to make themselves taller and everyone else paid for it, it would seem spurious and pandering to insecurities. I'm not going to harrass anyone for changing sex but, equally, I'm not going to recognise you as a woman any more than I'd recognise Al Jolson as a black man

I dunno. It annoys me that it's treated as a physical condition when, physiologically, there's nothing wrong. Just be a gay man. At the same time, it's awful that this guy was attacked, more or less, for the way he dressed and being gay.
Maybe s/he really wanted to be a lesbian, and shoved up some blokes fanny who was a woman for the weekend...
