Said in the most non patronizing way ever, but I don’t think the people who don’t live in London etc realise how common place it is now.

To be fair, our beat area doesn’t cover the nearby towns of Midsomer Norton (no jokes please) and Radstock, where there is a much higher level of crime and ASB. It’s just as well that it doesn’t happen in our area though. You see that the report is signed by, not a police officer, but a PCSO. He is essentially it as far as police presence in that beat area is concerned, a beat area which stretches over more than 100 square miles. You can literally go for months without seeing a patrol car in our village.

Don't get much serious crime on the Island, but we are seeing an increase in anti-social behaviour. In general, you and your property are pretty safe....Ryde at night is our equivalent of the Wild West.

They are rare. Unless there's an incident of someone sitting on a roof throwing tiles, then about eight vans turn up! <laugh>

This is my postcode area. The level of Violent Crime is a bit disturbing but the area does cover parts of Llanelli which I wouldn't go into during the day, not to mention the night! I live in a small village which is generally crime-free apart from last weekend when one neighbour was charged with aggravated assault on another. The man charged is basically a thug who has hopefully now got the message that no-one (including his girlfriend) wants him here...

Should have said, the residential population is 36,976

My mate moved up here to Northampton for that very reason. I wonder if @jonny 'hasen' shuttle did for the same reason.

I don’t think I could ever leave London due to work, location, family and friends etc. Like I say I don’t see it as that bad of a place in all honesty even though it has gone a tad nuts on violence in recent years. But wherever you go you’ll get that, London just happens to be one of the worst purely due to its size and population as other factors.

On the Island, as I expected levels of burglary, theft from person and car crime is virtually non-existent (on the scale used on the graphs). Car theft is extremely rare here because of the problem of getting the car off the Island. Like Helen found...violent crime is surprisingly high, but that will not be stabbings and shootings, but punch ups. I have never felt in any danger here and would happily walk round at night. Feel for people who haven't that freedom.

Just binge-watched it tonight. Magnificent! I really enjoyed it. What a slog for the police though and how politics all come into it.
What amazes me in all these sort of things is that there are women who will stick with a guy like that. Defend him, even? Scary ......

Where I live up the road from you is a bit worse but to be honest I’ve not seen even a punch thrown in my 14 months in London. Compare that to my uni days there were fights every week.

There was a stabbing last summer though. And homelessness has massively increased in my time here.

On your say-so downloaded it and watched the first episode last night. Marvellous. We were tempted to watch the lot last night but decided the pain of waiting would help us enjoy the rest. Thanks for the recommendation.

Fear and brainwashing...also bullies and manipulators can spot the weak...or perhaps it would be kinder to call them vulnerable. Get them dependent and then afraid....especially when children are involved. You see similar situations in cults.

I agree it is amazing to the rest of us,,,but happens so often.

The lack of police co-operation with each other and egos that prevent progress is frustrating. It’s the same in many walks of life.

I had seen episode 1 and then caught up with 2 and 3 last night. Very well done series. I think I’ll buy his book.

I’m sandwiched right in between Peckham and New cross ( nearer Peckham). Not as bad these days but when the Peckham boys used to war with the ghetto lot it was absolute carnage. Brixton just down the road aswell.
