Imho the early to mid 70s was Bowie's heyday. From The man who sold the world, Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Alladin Sane,Pin ups and Diamond dogs came his best works. After that it was all down hill. He would have a few highlights but most of it would tedious pop. He would only find form again in the run up to his untimely demise. Five years is my favourite Bowie track. Mainly because I'm a miserable cùnt.
I like the 'covers' of Heroes! <iframe width="764" height="573" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-uTRvt3-Q-U" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="1019" height="573" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Pm_zXG72pdk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> The first one is by my favourite band since the demise of Led Zeppelin ...... BAP ......Koln. The second one features Bob Dylan's wee laddie.
Pin Ups was a con of an album - simply rushed out to cash in on Bowie's recent fame and to beat Bryan Ferry to it who was planning to release a similar album. Anyway, I suspect the likes of Station to Station, The Lodger etc. were a bit inaccessible for fans of glam rock like yerself.
Sorry, don't know. I hate being a pedant however I would not class 'Mud' as a Glam Rock beat combo; more a poor man's Showaddywaddy! On reflection; sorry for my levity ... both individuals probably pretty decent c**ts.
Both deid now anyhoo. Les Gray of Mud fame was from Carshalton don't you know, he got the big C and had a heart attack. Brian Connolly from Sweet wasn't a very well chap at all and he was the one who had loads of heart attacks before finally kicking the bucket. Be careful if you are ever buying any of his greatest hits stuff, you could end up with a live album from one of his later concerts instead of the more well known hits from the 70's. For true Glam Rock aficionados there was only Bowie, T-Rex and Roxy Music with anyone else from the era being branded band-wagon jumpers. The likes of Mud, Sweet, Gary Glitter, Slade etc just came along at the same time and dressed up in shiny clothes. Having said that the Glam era knocked out some excellent music and even our old ***** pal Paul 'Gary Glitter' Gadd did some fine work when he wasn't fingering 12 year olds on Top of the Pops. "Do you want to touch me there?" indeed.
Agreed. Noddy Holder is one of the most unique and under-rated vocalists ever to come out of the UK. That Dave Hill used to give me the heebie-jeebies though.
The fact that Dave Hill was considered a sex symbol pretty much symbolises how bad things were in Britain in the 1970s
Alice did appear on a VHS triple box set I had about Glam Rock but having said that so did bands like Sailor, Hello and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. I've always thought of Alice as more rock rather than Glam but he's also considered Hard Rock or Metal by some. Still going and plays a mean round of golf iirc.
The first AC track I heard was 'I'm Eighteen'................still one of my all time favourite rock tracks by any band/artist. Loved the Billion Dollar Babies album with Elected, Hello Hooray, Np More Mister Nice Guy and the title track; f****n' classic! Jeez; Top Of The Pops was brilliant in these bygone times.
Saw him a few years ago in Glasgow. He was onstage with his semi-naked daughter who was definitely an ah wid at the time.
^^^^ Listens to the equivalent of something farting in an elevator with a fast drum beat played over it.
