My point is what is "interference" and what is actually doing your job. I utterly reject your accusation of waffling. Especially when people don't seem to answer the core question.. AT ALL.

I'm trying to figure out how the hell you make it work.

Decisions only go to VAR if a game changing issue. (goal, pen, red card)

    Example 1:
salah is offside but then fouled from behind in CL Last 16 game. he was fouled by last man so its a red card. So in this case should the linesman have flagged offside when salah touches ball or leave it to VAR.

    Example 2:
Kane is offside (or is he) and he is not fouled for a pen but has a shot thats saved. The ball may break to an oncoming player for example. in this case when should linesman flag offside?

    Example 3:

Kane runs a channel run away from goal into right back area and is offisde when ball is played. Does linsman flag him off when he recieves ball? Can kane now corss it for a headed goal and then how many phases back do you go on VAR?

My view here is in all cases you must flag.

    Lets compare to NFL.

They use a flag which is that weighted cloth they throw on the ground which has two functions, to mark location of foul and to signal a penalty has occured during play. It is live and everyone plays on.

Surely you see that telling an official just don't bother flag cos the tehcnology will sort it is not the way when the thencology is only supposed to apply in certain scenarios

    So:

    finally;

    how would you feel if:

Kane is offside at anfield, has a shot and alisson saves it and it goes for corner. Lino never flags cos VAR will deal with it yeah? but there's no VAR, resulting corner leads to headed goal.

Bollocks. A ref is never going to overrule an offside from a ball over the top if a lino flagged.

Ffs if var is not dealing with it flag. If it is, whatever happened will be seen on replay so no need to interfere. They will see from replay when looking at goal shouldnt have been corner as was offside in build up.

And if salah was offside red card doesnt matter as it was after first incident.

Kane is a cheating **** and most likely get a pen anyway.

So Kane was offside last night and even with VAR they managed to get it wrong <doh>

I understand maybe getting red or pens wrong as it’s stull subject to interpretation but offside is black and white. Was odd that they don’t put the camera angle in line, but when it was in line shows his head and shoulder was ahead of the last defender therefor making him offside.

Thats even ignoring the fact that the pen looked a dive anyway

More to do with the interpretation than the system. And thats still a refs opinion just not the one on the pitch.

I think its been ****ed up on purpose personally.

During the WC linesmen were told not to flag for tight offsides and to leave it to VAR. I'm not sure that this is standard practise when VAR is being used as I've not heard it before. If VAR is an extra assistant to ensure the rules are followed then it shouldn't be used as a replacement for some of the calls otherwise there's no need to even have linesmen.

Joking said that last night ... they changed from the WC version because they realised it literally makes linesmen redundant since they never have the balls to do anything else until the ref whistles anyway.

The refs whistle is God. Let the linesman wave his little flag but as for every other bloody decision players should play to the whistle... if they stop tough ****ing luck.

If ref whistles for offside then play stops or anything a player trys on afterwards is ignored... as it won't be referred to var by ref.

This bollox about players being used to stopping is just that .. keepers were used to picking the ball up in a back pass too....

Spurs staying at Wembley until March, so they will be playing at home if they get through against Chelsea as looks likely after their 1st leg win last night.
There players are more familiar with the stadium than their opposition even if it's City, it's an unfair advantage no doubt.

Doesn't matter. You play to the whistle and only one guy has one.

A player shouldn't be looking at the lino, they should concentrating on the game. What if they looked over at the lino and the opposition player had been offside, ****ed yourself over then haven't you? Play to the whistle!

Don't know what's going on with the site today double posts and not allowing replies, anyway ....

@jenners04''Throw ins, obstructions in front of them ie free kicks etc?''

Judging by the games I've watched recently, whoever get to the ball first takes the throw in, same for goal kicks/corners <laugh>
