Ah, so we should have appointed someone like Wenger, a top manager, after all these top managers we're bashing down the door to be at Town!! Pmsl
Yorkie - of the managers availabe (& would possibly be willing to come to us) who would you appoint? Personally, I think once a manager is given a contract, they should be allowed to see it out (unless they do something illegal etc). MM was given 5 years. PH was given almost no time & now you think PL is the same so who would you give the job to?
MM had a year too many. I would have kept PH on. It’s not just who you appoint it’s timing as well. It was the absolute wrong time to make a change. Get Burley / Butcher in as Director of Football and let them choose their man. Whoever it is needs to have some hunger AND some success at the top level as a player or manager. Kieron Dyer ticks those boxes for me but he ideally needs to work under someone more experienced for several years. Having said that, he couldn’t do any worse. We need forward planning. We had a plan in the summer and we ditched it after two months when we didn’t have a great start. Under Paul Lambert I have no idea what the plan is. He said the players were fantastic and then a few weeks later we need six new players.
Well we could have had Lampard in, that was my first choice. I think the Cowley brothers would do well at Town.
We all know what needs to be done, any manager knows what needs to be done, the question is will Evans break the habit since he's been here and fund the changes that need to be made ? Lambert yesterday said that there are players here that need to go, that's undeniable but will Evans pay for the replacements ? Lambert also said that the state the Club has been allowed to get into is a disgrace, true again but the message was surely for Evans telling him that he is to blame. Unfortunately without a change of owners nothing will change.
Evans DID spend a lot of ££££ between 2007 - 2012 with Magilton / Keane + Jewell having a competition at who could lose the most ££££. Cut back under Mick, and will continue to cut back. No one had issue when Evans was backing the three idiots - it was unsustainable really and he needs to sell A S A P and allow someone else to have a go. You get around 5 years of a go at footy, if it doesn't work then you cannot just spend spend spend or a potential mess could happen.
I actually think it's a good move...we need someone like him, big and strong. We're so lightweight. I have a feeling he'll do well. If he becomes our main striker, can see him getting 10
I don’t know much about either of them, so I’ll reserve judgement, but the ratios aren’t great so don’t have high expectations.
Far better than the likes of Jackson / Harrison so pleased. Physical presence and totally turned the game in Huddersfield's favour v Sheff Weds in their play off semi final 16/17 second leg. Won't score a lot, but will maybe assist a couple and hold it up. 6'3 / strong and uses body well. Happy with this. Pilikington would be quality if we can get that over the line, but think we'll miss out sadly.
Games? Minutes? Think he could be a terrific signing. He's an absolute specimen who looks like a juggernaut when he's running as he has incredible pace and power. From the short video clips I've seen (Never a full indication I know) he reminds of when Mings galloped past people with ease.. In fact I don't think I've seen a striker being so direct since we had Kuqi chasing crisp packets round the pitch like an over excitable Labrador pup. Hopefully this guy can have half the impact that Shefki did in his time here.
Hearing rumours that Dozzell may be on his way in this window. Could be a good move for the club and the player if we get a good fee. What valuation would people want to see?
£10million.. Or at least close to it with some fairly substantial add ons. The rumoured asking price is £5m which I think is probably about right, but I'd like to think we'd at least try and fleece any buyers and get the best possible deal imaginable (Like other clubs seem pretty good at) as I don't think the player is in any hurry to leave and we don't really need to sell.
I'm sure the kid's got potential but he's nowhere near as influential on games as his Dad was at the same age(probably unfair to compare though).Don't really care how much we sell him for as there is very little correlation between the fee we receive and what Evans deigns to spend on new players. He certainly doesn't seem to be stumping up anywhere near the purported war chest of £10million which was being bandied about when Lambert joined (although I was never clear as to where that figure came from).
Sell sell sell, completely overhyped on the back of that knee injury. The thing is, we do need to sell due to annual losses - if we go down we will need to sell for fun. 3.5 upfront maybe rising to 6-8 mill would be fair. So overrated it isn’t funny - sure, maybe in the future he will be a star but right now miles off it.
£5m plus a few add ons and clauses would be a good deal for a kid with little minutes on the pitch. As long as that money is INVESTED back into the playing squad, then this could be a good deal to re-balance and refresh the squad for League One.
Simon Dawkins has arrived on a free. Short term contract until summer, Mick McCarthy style signing. He's 31, a former Jamaican international, plays as a winger and he was previously at San Jose Earthquakes. Used to play for Derby, apparently. I can honestly say I've never heard of this player before! But still, jury is out, welcome to the club Simon.
