I watched a sky movie premiere yesterday. Proud Mary. It was ok up to the point the heroine drove her Maserati into a hail of assault rifle bullets, none of which killed here despite hitting her doors windows etcetcetc. The thing was she was assassin and good at it but it was sort of realistic right up until they played the song proud mary upon which it got so bloody laughably ridiculous it ruined the movie. They spent and hour making her into a hitwoman wanting out with regular skills that the normal human would be then for 5minutes it's full scale black widow super hero **** there 20 guys are killed who are shooting at her with assault rifles and none hit her but she kills them all with a pistol
I saw that one tonight, but decided to avoid it. Seems like I had a lucky escape. Although if the track was Proud Mary by Creedance Clearwater Revival it is a great version of said song and would distract me from the film in any event. If it was the Tina Turner version then MEH
I thought it watchable but the end as I described is just silly. We watched it cos the actress has been in some decent shows I've seen like person of interest so she was the reason we watched it. I don't think it was Tina Turner, but you know me.. I could well be wrong.
That'd be a fair statement. I really don't know why they had a huge falling out or it bombed or whatever compared to marvel... but it wasn't bad. The only current crop DC stuff thats good is gal gadot in skimpy outfit. The fact that they actually cast ben affleck as batman says it all. I don't mind aquaman (zlist hero) casting, nobody cares about cyborg (z lister) They really ****ed up the flash. Superman is very difficult to cast, its a dull as dishwater can't be beaten superhero so its only the early years thats of any interest. Wonderwoman hubba hubba. Theres a big gap in that justice league compared to comics and green lantern is a big miss.
Thing is DC has the better know stable of Superheroes, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash etc etc all really well know even to the layman. If you consider that all Marvel had was Iron Man and Cpt America (excluding Spiderman, X men and F4 as Marvel didn't/don't have them) at the beginning, its amazing to what they've achieved with the B-list Marvel stars. Problem for DC is they followed the wrong director and went heavy on the 'Dark' element that Nolan had achieved with Batman. Not to mention the overuse of CGI (which is badly done). Poor scripts, boring brooding characters, a messy continuity and introducing new characters before the franchise is ready for them (the JLA and suicide squad films have come way to early). DC should stop, wait and start again properly
Agreed. They clearly felt they could milk the excellent trilogy of Nolans Bat man films. Glad you brought up cgi too, I hate too much cgi, but the difference between the marvel films and dc films is incredible. It's like I did the cgi for them, awful stuff
True. DC heros individually would be much bigger. Historically superman batman and wonderwoman all have their own american TV shows. Marvel characters were all harder to portray until cgi came along. Marvel actually survived a very poor launch of fantastic 4 in cinema for example and got it right with iron man. Marvel were more cartoon that acted Tv i guess. I think you are right that "quality" of script, have a good individual show and quality of action has let DC down. Its also usually what marvel has got very right You look at iron man.. you couldn't imagine anyone else doing it. you look at superman it could be anyone. You look at thor... and its worked. YOu look at hulk and it has not. You look at new batman its a disaster, you look at wonder woman and get a hard on. neither gets it right all the time but marvel gets the front line casting right more often.
I'd be quite happy if another comic book movie were never made and instead the money to produce them went into something more original.
On no account...should anyone watch Life Itself.... I did it for you.... I will suffer the long term side effects...you can all get on with happy lives
