Report: Bristol City eye £1m bid for Everton midfielder Joe Williams Everton midfielder Joe Williams is reportedly being pursued by the Championship side this month.. please log in to view this image According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (06/01; page 63), Bristol City want to sign Everton youngster Joe Williams, with a £1 million offer set to be put on the table. Williams is currently plying his trade with the Robins' Championship rivals Bolton Wanderers. He has made 19 appearances for Phil Parkinson's men, but perhaps the goalless draw with Stoke City last month could prove to be his final outing for the Trotters. The Sun on Sunday (06/01; page 63) reports that City are planning to make a £1 million offer for Williams, and Bolton will be unable to match that bid for the former England under-20 international. If Everton accept the offer, it is not too difficult to see why the 22-year-old may be tempted to head to Ashton Gate this month. He is playing regularly at Bolton, but they find themselves in the bottom three and fighting to stay in the second tier. please log in to view this image Lee Johnson's men are 11th and just five points off the top six. One team always seems to make a surge from mid-table in the second-half of the campaign and then carries all of the momentum into the play-offs, so perhaps the Robins could be that outfit. A deal between Everton and Bristol City would evoke some memories of the move that saw Liam Walsh leave Goodison Park 12 months ago having spent the first-half of the season on loan with Birmingham City. Walsh has gone on to make six league appearances for City this term. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/01/...eye-1m-bid-for-everton-midfielder-joe-willia/
Sounds promising - with as well as Walsh we may not see the best of them for a couple of years, but could be excellent business in the longer term.
Posted on Bolton’s JA606 board and got this response: https://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/401527
Not very positive but as he says he may kick on under a different team, so we'll have to wait and see. I would hope that someone at City had something in mind by the signing and I just hope it wasn't the price.
Williams was in the FA cup Squad for today! does that rule him out for the rest of the games should he change clubs?
I don’t see the point in keep buying these £1m players, better we concentrate on the ones already here . If the club has a spare £1m they could always put it towards a decent tannoy system for the dolman.
Don't necessarily agree with that - if he's a good prospect then I'm all for it. If in a few years time he's playing in the Premiership there'd be plenty asking why we didn’t sign him when we had the chance.
How much money have they lost on these 1-2 million pounds players, thought they would have learnt by now.
Of these £1m-£2m 'punts' only one can be written off and that is Engvall. None of the others have come good yet and I bet we have a couple of gems at least in there, not least of whom is Liam Walsh. Everton fans were gutted to lose him to us, to write off these 21 year old players is absolutely daft.
Just takes a kick up the arse and a good coach to get them back on track. However the gem I watched for Newport last night needs to be brought back soon, but I'm not sure how he fits in to our future plans.
Talking about Antoine Semenyo, it is reported that they are already sniffing. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/751859/Man-Utd-transfer-news-Antoine-Semenyo
Did you watch him last night wiz? The commentators were almost drooling over his skills and today he turns 19, so clearly he used his time in the spotlight to full advantage and I hope we don't lose him for anything less than 50 million.
I did indeed, he was great but the whole team played with resilience and purpose, they wanted that result and got it, I think Semenyo is a brilliant prospect, he is learning his trade well, he is in the right place to do so. LJ would be right to allow him to remain with Newport until the end of the season and continue his development, what a prospect we have for next season, just my own opinion.
Semenyo has been tracked by the top clubs for a while - I'm pretty certain he was linked with Man Utd at the very start of the season. I agree with you Wiz to let him stay and get games at Newport. Though I'm definitely of the opinion 'if you're good enough, you're old enough', is he going to be picked ahead of the likes of Diedhiou, Paterson, Taylor and Eisa? Actual game time is likely to benefit him more than sitting on the bench. Maybe there'd be a decision to be made at the start of next season though - for me, it's looking more and more like Taylor will be shown the door.
Yep, should have spunked £10.5m plus wages on proven quality like Jordan Rhodes like Sheffield Wednesday did. That's why they're challenging for the top sp.... (wait a minute)....
Would you push the boat out for Maja at Sunderland at 5 million or go for Scott Hogan at Villa not getting game time.
