After the Wolves defeat we were all scrambling for the want of new players but since we've scored ten goals without reply so; Would new players disrupt this winning team? Would they take too long to settle and hold us back? Should we wait until the Summer? I think we don't but I'd be interested to read your views. Thank you.
I would say we do need someone top quality specifically in CM. I think one top player is enough there for now. Then again I don’t see us getting a player of the required quality in January and even if we did they can take a while to settle especially if they’re coming from outside the league, which they would probably have to - see Moura last year compared to the start of this season. I don’t think we’ll get anyone though unless we can move one or two on, and if we do it’ll be a young player and we’ll look for someone to come into the first team in the Summer. I just can’t see a player of the required quality being available for us this month. To play devils advocate we all wanted signings in the summer and we are in a fantastic position right now having not added to the squad. It’s a massive risk given the continuing intensity of our fixture list to not add to the squad right now but I can see it happening mainly due to the availability (or lack therof) of players who are what we want.
My thoughts exactly Huddlefro. We have underperforming players like Llorente who, if come good can do the job for us as he does in the FA Cup with two hat tricks now.
I’m not sure Llorente is underperforming as much as he is underused or badly used. When we use him as a target man, or get accurate crosses into the box like yesterday he’s not a bad option and could certainly be used in some games to give us another dimension against teams who dig in, like Burnley recently. When we expect him to play like Kane, it obviously doesn’t work.
I'm going to be controversial and say a goalkeeping understudy to Gazza who I'd now prefer in goal to Lloris. I'm not au fait with the keeper situation at Tottenham. I don't think we should vilify Vorm but it's time for him to go.
I’d be happy to see Vorm go and if it’s not this window it’ll be the next one. Gazza is a great keeper and in my opinion easily good enough to keep goal for most of the sides in the league. His distribution is miles better than Hugo’s and he’s also a good shot stopper with presence in the box. I think they push each other hard and that can only be good. I imagine that once Vorm goes we’ll see an academy keeper promoted to 3rd choice unless Poch comes out with another left field choice for a signing.
CM/DM is where the injury plague is. Spurs are not going to find a PL ready hit the ground running equivalent of any of the injured three, in 4 weeks. Last summer was the time for that.
The only immediate worry is CM/ DM. Get that sorted and I'd fancy us to have a great second half of the season similar to our start, with hopefully a good chance of silverware. Don't strengthen it and then potentially get an injury to Sissoko or see him burnout, we can kiss a strong finish goodbye, as well as likely saying bye to Toby and Eriksen in the summer. If the dream signings like SMS, de Jong, Ndombele etc are out of the question. The likes of Grealish, Doucoure, Berge, Lobotka and I'm sure many others would also make excellent additions. Having options is better than no options.
We should definitely be looking to freshen up the squad this month, and the obvious move would be to bring in Berge while moving on Dembele as that would reinforce central midfield while also allowing us to ease Berge into the team for half a season like we did last season with Moura. We should also consider a landgrab now for a summer arrival, with Ndombele the obvious choice that also allows us six months to line up suitors for Wanyama, and we should consider a similar option up front with Llorente in the last six months of his contract while Janssen is in the last eighteen.
Sander Berge. Highly rated Norwegian international playing for Genk. You could probably say he's the cheaper alternative to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who's likely out of our price range at the moment. Berge however is quoted at being around £23m. If we can shift out a few players, that's easily affordable for us. I'd love to get him, looks ideal for Poch to mould.
We don't need new players. If we can find one or two who are as good as Wanyama or Dembele are likely to be at their current fitness levels then they would be worth signing. I don't want us to sign anyone who doesn't meet that criteria because they have to replace Wanyama or Dembele in the squad unless they are home grown.
Is Poch saying he has taken you as far as he can with Levy in charge? https://www.skysports.com/football/...rs-must-operate-differently-to-win-silverware
Yeah agree. Like I said, he's a cheaper alternative to Milinkovic-Savic. Both very big lads but possess great technical skills that you don't often get with tall guys. SMS is just a bit more advanced though at the moment in all attributes but Berge could definitely play at a similar level I reckon.
Oh. Diego, Your WUM attempts on Poool 606 the past hour has given you false hope to come here. < our commiserations >
Twas a serious question, how do you read it (coupled with his "must be brave" comments in the summer)?
Don't want signings for signings sake but the last few years suggests we could do with first team improvements....almost but no cigar moments a plenty. However we won't pay the kind of money required for the quality of player we need to walk straight into the first team. This brings me to the money men at Spurs...but I won't go there.
