This topic comes up often on here. For me, it's about playing exciting, expansive and imaginative football....win, lose or draw I don't necessarily see winning trophies as the be all and end all.
You can only do that for so long though before the fans, players, manager, owners etc get restless and want to win things. We played attractive free flowing football at Arsenal for a decade and won nothing. It was pretty, exciting and easy on the eye, but it won us nothing. That said, the turgid ****e Mourinho used to get his players to churn out to trying to win trophies was mind numbing,.
it's in Lovren's job description to be poor and so he is. He couldn't handle it last night and should've been subbed at HT
I would take "mean nothing" as dismissing it, wouldn't you? We have I believe the best team we've had for a generation. Yes, we could have done better yesterday but nevertheless we are stronger than all the other teams and expect to beat them. We could with careful use of our players go a long way in all competitions including the FA cup. This team has a great chance to win it and this season is the one to do it. It would be a shame if focussing on two competitions we lost out on all. And if that happened, what would this great team have to show for it? a challenge for the title? a challenge for the CL? but no trophies. And the players: Salah, Mane, VVD: great players but would they not like to show some medals? An FA Cup medal is still a great achievement.
I would add to that competing though. You can get unlucky with a cup draw or the way a single game goes and not win things, but I want to be there by playing good football
You cannot call this a great team as it has only "existed" for half a season and hasn't achieved anything yet. The most you can say imo is that it has the potential to be at least a top team though on your point about chasing cups i feel their are big holes in the squad i.e. FB cover & front 3 which will have a bearing on that.
Maybe not when we are 4 points clear at the top of the Prem. in January.........the trophies will come, we are still building and we will be a stronger side next season again
AND the problem with picking and choosing is the momentum. You just cannot turn it on and off like a tap. That is why I think although it is the FA cup we have to win our next match. Suddenly after having a good run, if we have 2 consecutive defeats and Klopp and the team then face 3 matches without a win. The pressure starts building up. We just need to go out to win every match with the best players we can afford to play bearing in mind fatigue, fitness, rest, rotation etc. I do not subscribe to this idea of playing a very weakened team because the FA cup is lower down the list of priorities. Are we saying that we have a greater chance of winning the CL than the FA Cup? IMO that's bollox to steal a quote.
Having had a skim read back (went to bed pretty much after the game as i have the lurgy ) can i just say i'm glad to see that no one over reacted to defeat in an incredibly tight game to the "bestest" team ever . As i posted straight after the game it was decided on very fine margins which happened on the night to go in City favour just as in other games this season they have gone our way.
Well we made cl final last season so yeah. You be going into hiding if we end up with key injuries to players and it ****s our whole season up. League should be priority and even **** the cl off. We win the title players will want to come.
I don't think anyone is suggesting we put out a second eleven, Klopp has to manage the squad through till May. And thus far I think he's doing a grand job.
Also, it's "weakening the team" but "strengthening the squad" to give some game time to players who haven't had much but might be needed later
So, in summary: 11 mm more and it's a totally different game. Lovren is a ****. The ref is a scum-lover. Kompany should've seen red. Fernandinho got away with ****ing murder. Fabinho should have started. I should have known this would happen when my lift's car broke down on the way home from work. I had to get a ****ing taxi back from the Cock o' Budworth
Doesnt look any busier than it normally is. Not surprising lots more non lfc fans have turned up to comment though
