Loyalty in professional football has never existed in its history. Owners have always sold players if the price was right or they had a replacement in the bag. Players have always moved for money, even in the days of a fixed maximum wage. Sign on bonuses lured the best players to "glamorous/successful" clubs who wanted them.
Only supporters are hooked on the idea that a player should show loyalty to a club. An extremely small percentage of pros are of that persuasion, and they would be interested in non-financial "benefits" - close to family, kids schooling, social/cultural aspects. If an offer came in that was financially far better, career development a great opportunity, then the "soft" benefits would go by the wayside.
Why so many supporters decry this situation is baffling, when they actually would do exactly the same themselves.

No one bgrudges a player going tc. It's the circumstances of their going.
Tymon owed this club for ten years of development.
Same as hirsts lad at Wednesday.
No one begrudged Dawson going to end his career at forest.
Same with Hudd at derby, shame but understandable.
Odubajo owed us a season after getting top money while we rehabilitated him.
I wouldn't begrudge Bowen going now, I think he should wait till summer for his own development tho.
If someone came in for Batty now it would be a stupid time to move for him.

I've got renewed hope for the city crowd after the booing of odubajo. Unlike on here where it seems its money money money and **** the club you support.

I was talking about his record. Which is just as poor as who he is replacing, of he comes he will get my full support and backing

The circumstances are market forces. Owners would toss out a player without hesitation if an offer came in, even if they had to pay off compensation to the player. A player owes a club nothing, whatever the circumstances. That's the market. Some supporters don't seem to understand that.

    I understand itwell.
I'm just biased as it's my club and players who disrespect it get called a greedy ****.

Based on Sunderland "til I die, I wouldn't touch Fletcher with a ten foot barge pole. Big lad but very lightweight and very fragile mentally by the looks of it.

As a general point, the prevalence of people excusing greed for 'well, it's exactly what you would do in that situation' is, to put it mildly, somewhat disconcerting.

Almost an understandable emotion. Have you ever changed jobs for money, career advancement or heaven forbid for being let go/fired ?
    (ah yes...sacked ).
All factors in the overall "market". Mere pawns in the game - with some self determination. Loyalty does not exist in pro sport.

I've also turned down jobs on a regular basis where the money is far more than I'm earning now. I also turned down an advance, ent in my current job as it would mean leaving the team in the ****.
Loyalty does exist in pro sport and always has done.
I'm not asking for unswerving loyalty for life. It's sometimes about doing the right thing at the right time.
Isn't it how we were brought up and how we bring our kids up?
To do the right thing. To take responsibility?

    Exactly.

If people want to question the state of the country/world, don't be fooled by some billionaire-owned tabloid feeding frenzy on 'everything going to pot about not being able to make jokes about blacks or gays anymore'; it's this ****.

All good sentiments to be sure.
However, do we actually know the intricate details in most cases when supporters cry "disloyal bastard" when a player moves on ?
I don't think so. It's in many cases an irrational misguided "entitlement" emotion expressed by loyal supporters who are pissed off with the player not having the same emotional attachment to a club.

Its not about emotional attachment from them. It's about doing the right thing. And players are judged by fans on their actions.
Been a supporter is irrational etc etc etc otherwise why support hull city. It's stupid we won't win anything. We've been **** most of my life and most of our history.
Maybe we should just be a feeder club for a big club.

Pullis on Fletcher.... maybe the Adkins way might suit him...

“I think the big thing with Fletch is his personality,” explained the Boro boss.

“He’s got to come out of himself. Technically, he’s a very, very gifted player, but it’s not technique alone that gets you there.

“His personality; you can go through a training session and not notice Fletch being there and he’s got to grow.

“He’s going to be a late, late developer. As a kid he’s an absolutely fabulous lad and technically he’s excellent, we just want him to grab it.

“He’s been at Man United, he’s left, he’s gone to West Ham, and he’s left and he’s come to us and he’s got to start grasping it.”

The right thing in general. Leaving a club who supported you without giving a bit back.

Otherwise instead of slagging Ehab maybe this board should be applauding him for trousering the money. Saw his chance and took it. Well done eh?

Is this Ashley Fletcher less injury prone than Keane? If so that’s a bonus.

    Good post.
Back in the day Ken Wagstaff stayed loyal to the club although I'm not sure that he was made aware of the interest in him. Chris Chilton did too until his unfortunate back injury when we fleeced Coventry.
Before them, Andy Davidson, one club man. Should be a bust or something to this man in honour of his service to Hull City somewhere at the KC. Also something similar to Ian Ashbee wouldn't be an unpopular move and a rare show of class shown by the club.
And of course Gareth Roberts, probably the last of the one club players.
