I do watch and want us to do well and succeed, but i can never cheer like i can for Newcastle, that's not because i don't love my country, but because i feel the players think it's a service and not an honour to play for England. The World Cup last year pissed me off as we did bollocks and we had overpaid, arseholes like Waye Rooney having a go at those fans who travelled over there and spent their money, and yet he still felt the need to slate fans, even after the teams dreadful performances. I'll be watching tonight hoping for a good win, but i won't be sitting with my England shirt on feeling the love and passion that i feel when i watch Newcastle.
Its skysports, will be plenty streams though. Even if we win every game, including Spain,we still might not finish 2nd and get to the playoffs.Knowing Scotland we will beat Spain but get pumped tonight!!!
I just can't get excited about England anymore . Sad but true . Still will carry on supporting though. Its hard being a England fan Its harder being a ITFC fan .....
Being fourth in the current rankings is no different to us being in the top 4 after a couple of games - it may not reflect your eventual position but it certainly reflects recent results. I believe England are one of the top 5 teams in world football and on a good day can be a good match for anyone.
I just don't get the "We're from England therefore we must support them" theory. I don't care about England. I care about Newcastle Utd, end of. Always have. I put enough effort into supporting Newcastle and living with the heartache, that I don't need to convince myself I should feel passion for England too and support them. I just don't care about them. Same with Andy Murray - he's from Britain so we should support him... why? I prefer Nadal - nicer chap!
same as this guy^ Lots of people don't support the club that they where born near so why should i support the country i'm from. International football has never really interested me so i don't bother following England.
Some people are not interested in England and I understand that. I don't have a problem with it and am not suggesting for a minute that everyone should support their national side. What really baffles me is when England 'fans' complain about the current state of things, slate the manager, players, FA and anything they can, simply because they are media sheep. Things really aren't that bad for England and I just wish more of the England 'fans' would appreciate how well we're actually doing.
Ah ok To be honest i've always thought the main problem was the media seriously over-rated several of our players so all the "sheep" as you put it expected far too much from them
That's absolutely right. The media give far too much exposure to the England players and that often translates itself as overkill as far as the public are concerned. I couldn't give a **** what Rio Ferdinand does in his spare time or what Theo Walcott thinks of anything - I just want the right players on the pitch for England and doing the business. Everything else is bollocks, frankly.
I'll always watch and support England, but like others, my enthusiasm has run dry at the moment. I woke up to talkSPORT* the morning after the Bulgaria game, and they were going on about how their faith had been restored in Capello. Excuse me? It was only a few months ago that people were calling for his head. It's the same old story. The media massively hype up the England team after a successful qualification campaign and then it all goes Pete Tong during the tournament. Don't get me wrong - a 3-0 away win is a good result, but people, particularly the media don't learn their lesson. *Don't judge me for setting my alarm to talkSPORT.
I'm not English. England is the international country I follow because some of my relatives are English but I don't feel alot of passion for it. Especially not with football. It is pretty hard to get passionate about it when most of the players don't seem to give a damn. England Cricket is the exception though I really get the buzz following them (and not just since they became good I've always enjoyed following them). But then you can tell that it means a great deal to the players, so ...!
This is an old post, but Krul saving every time for me. I have no interest in international football beyond seeing how Newcastle players do.
England have ben breaking my heart and letting me down since 1970, when they threw away a 2 goal lead against West Germany in Mexico. I reserve the right to sneer, make disparaging comments, and generally be a bit negative about my own country, thanks. We'll stroll it tonight though, no probs.
Football and national pride don't have anything to do with each other really. Are you bothered about an English dart player in an international tournament? Or an English pancake flipper in a pancake flipping contest?
England just scored, and I didnt celebrate. I dont hate England, I just have no feelings towards them. I celebrate watching other premiership teams score more than I do watching England score.
