I was PISSED we messed that one up. He would have gotten serious amounts of play time in this team/squad and would also provide much needed, and extremely competent, cover in a number of positions. Plus, young/home grown etc.
How do you know we messed it up? Villa were in the middle of a takeover. It would have been absolutely standard to have clauses preventing asset sales. Perhaps it wasn’t possible. We’ve got too many non home grown players. We need to dispose of some to make space. If Dembele and Wanyama are going to be permanently unfit then they have to go.
He was available for £15m pre-takeover. The rumour was we offered just £5m plus Onomah which Villa basically kindly told us to **** off with. During and once the takeover was completed, the price had risen to £25m which we didn’t meet until two days before the window shut, at which by then, the new owners then also kindly told us to **** off because we pissed about for too long. Grealish should be a Spurs player right now. The only reason he’s not is because of Spurs messing about.
This sort of thinking makes me despair. Eriksen is one of the best midfielders in the world. There is literally no one who can come in for him and improve the team. If he appears to be playing badly that is no indication of what he is going to do in the next few minutes. Same with Kane. We’ve already got Lucas Moura and Lamela to come in if anyone is out. We do need someone better than Llorente as another option.
Yep, what DH said. There was enough information going around, including from the mouth of Steve Bruce IIRC to be as certain as is possible that we messed it up by penny pinching.
Sorry to make you despair, but sometimes you need to change it up. You can't expect Eriksen to be on song every game, especially given the amount of running he does every game.
Why did no other club pick up Alli/Eriksen/Rose/Trippier/Dier/<insert any number of bargains we've picked up>.
I agree. He won’t play well every game. And he sometimes will perform better with a rest. But that doesn’t mean you should haul him off and put on a worse player based on a few minutes of play.
Because we bought them! We’ve got a fantastic record in the transfer market. If we didn’t sign Grealish then there was a good reason.
Not true. The reality for such players is : 1. their transfer/wage fees will be very high 2. some are unlikely to be happy bench-warming or rotating games
