At least signings from Leicester and Hull are hopefully more promising than the dross Hurst brought in from Divs 3 and 4, and as you say action is being taken at the earliest possible opportunity.

There is a difference between taking a punt on someone scoring goals in the lower leagues and signing someone who can’t get in a Championship rival’s side and has a record of six goals in 78 games and a career ravaged by injury. If we sign this guy we may as well all pack up and go home.

I will reserve judgement but if we do end up signing Keane this would signify that Evans has either learned nothing or has no intention of changing his policy.

Both Callum Elder and Will Keane are underwhelming names, but we are ten points adrift at the bottom of the table and, with a scrupulous owner, what are supporters honestly expecting? We are in a position where we have to trust in Lambert's judgement and hope that these incoming players were high up on his list!

If he can get these incoming players performing to a higher standard than our existing lot, then we'll have a better chance of staying up. In relation to a want-away, poorly-performing Knudsen and our misfiring, blunt strike-force, both Elder and Keane are necessary signings, in terms of positions. I also hope we have a right-back, centre-back, defensive midfielder, winger, and another striker lined up. Hopefully we can shift out some of the under-performing players while we're at it. It's no surprise we're doing these crucial squad enhancements on the cheap. Evans is probably resigned to relegation and doesn't want to spend more than he must before selling us off in the summer. Good riddance to the man, he barely spent any money in January when we were second and Mick wanted more players in, and Evans has consistently made profit in every transfer window since the early Jewell years. Whatever way you cut it, he's the main culprit for our decade long stagnation and recent decline, which has all occurred under his ownership.

I don't expect Evans to change his spending policy even though the correctly targetted and acquired players would save him millions in future losses, so I am under no illusions other than his crackpot, ruinous, destructive financial conduct will continue, even though its obvious to a fool that to continue along this path will inevitably lead to relegation, and if this is still not understood that to continue to sell any decent player we have and replace them with a lesser quality person must lead to a dilution of the squad then he doesn't even begin to understand why we are in this lousy situation.

No issue with Elder - assume that's the end of Knudsen and he's viewed as an upgrade on Kenlock. I'd not heard of CCV before he came here and he was quality. Might be a right player - one way to find out.

Keane - I'm not really one for signing players with the same injury twice on the knee ...... one tackle would concern me. His goal record is poor and I cannot imagine it being a roaring success.

That said - Alan Lee anyone? Came in and was exactly what we needed - we'll see.

No issue with me going down the leagues to pick up talent - Sears + McGoldrick cost us £200k ish combined and were both astute signings. Just clearly went way O T T last summer. Balanced required.

Marquis of Doncaster I'd like here if possible - goal scorer and deal up in the summer according to my Donny supporting mate - don't see it though!

Oh how I laughed Westy at the thought of the Marquis of Doncaster tearing up the turf at PR! Didn't know there was one, ha ha!
TBH I would really like one quality strong target man, and perhaps two or three players in known weak positions. I cant see Evans dishing out £15m now, and I believe 6 new faces in the squad would unsettle things at the moment. The one thing we know is that PL has got the team playing for him, in our stronger spells - with an enthusiasm that belies our position. I really think it's time for Chambo to hang up his boots, but he will stay to steer us thru the next critical period, old Suffolk Punch War Horse that he is.

I have begun to like & respect Lambert's as a man and manager, given the dreadful circs he found us. But no respect or time for Evans' at all.

The boy Morris is back from his loan. Looked tasty briefly against Blackburn but didn't pull up any trees (!) at Forest Green, for whatever reason.

    Welcome back Ben!

Agree with that Hampy, would imagine he's going to need to go out on loan elsewhere and play more.

I think Lambert must have been quite shocked to discover the poor quality of some of the players at PR and lets face it he wasn't exaggerating when he said we need 6 players in January, whether we get them and the quality required is yet to be seen but I think it puts into perspective the dreadful situation he inherited.

One could almost be tempted to think our DoF (a good mate of Mick’s don’t forget) has done a sabotage job on our squad!!

Or a fire sale prior to our illustrious leader jumping ship having left the cupboard bare.

I think we have better players in the squad than are getting game time, we should be getting a lot more out of what we already have and then using the transfer window to enhance it with a commanding centre back, a playmaker and a goalscorer. We do need more quality in every position to compete with the best in the league but there is no way we are going to be signing 6 or 11 or even two or three players that are significantly better than we already have.

This is not Mick's fault, it's not Hurst's fault, it's not going to be Lambert's fault either. Roy Hodgson strikes me as the only manager in the game who could get results with these resources.

Reports that we are in for Gestede and Leadbitter from ‘Borough in some kind of swap for Knudsen.

Neither will happen, lazy journalism in my opinion, never remotely likely.

I say that and both will happen - egg on face. Don't see it.

Donacien has apparently signed so he is no longer one of the 'Loanees' and is now an official Town player

Not that it matters anyway as I get the impression that Lambert doesn't think that much of him anyway so he was never likely to be taking up one of the 5 places in the squad.

I don’t think we should read much into this. Even if we didn’t want him we were probably contractually obliged to finish the deal.

Gestede and Leadbitter ? I'd be happy to get Abbot and Costello for that dollop.

We are close to signing Collin Quaner from Huddersfield.. Apparently.

Which could mean 2 strikers signed in the first week of January. Though not of the pedigree we were all hoping for.

My only knowledge of Quaner is that he is an absolute lump of a centre forward, is apparently German and hasn't scored many goals before.

He should fit in very well then because none of our strikers have scored many goals before either.
