    Luckily I'm not a dog. :)
My son's dog ignores them....which is fortunate, but it meant I couldn't try out the method I'd heard for helping dogs with this problem. Apparently you never comfort them as it reinforces their fear. Act normal. No idea if that works.

The Eagle has Landed, The Heroes of Telemark, Ice Station Zebra....thought they were great films at the time (and probably still are), but I watch much 'softer' films now...don't know whether that is me or a sign of the times.

Same here. I surprised myself by enjoying THOT so much. The Eagle has Landed, I can miss, but I went through a bit of an Ice Station Zebra moment a few years back when I watched it 3-4 times in the space of a fortnight. It was in full Super Panavision 70mm widescreen and had Overture, Intermission, Entracte and Exit music included. So basically, this was the real cinema release. It made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. Luckily the film itself is ok, except for the stock military jet special effects, near the end. And, of course Patrick MacGoohan, who was taking a break from making The Prisoner TV series, is brilliant in it.

Saints and Swansea first and second in the top league. Will we ever see days like that again?

I'm sure that is the same game that Ivan Golac scored that amazing goal - West Bromwich were in green?

Michael Schumacher: Family to celebrate on 50th birthday

Not sure what to think about this. It's been 5 years since his accident. He obviously can't communicate enough to issue a statement himself. Very sad.

Thanks for that, I think this was the goal that legend had it that the ball didn't deviate in the air at all and we could read the name printed on the ball (Mitre or whatever) from the moment it left his boot all the way to the back of the net.

One of those goals that was better there than on the TV replays. I was standing the opposite end in the Milton in the 'boys box'. Cracking strike.

Very sad, indeed. He’s not coming back and it’s only his money which is allowing his family to keep him alive. His muscles must be so atrophied now that, were he to wake through some miracle, he’d still be bedridden for years, I reckon.
I feel that he should be allowed to slip away and join Ayrton, Jim Clarke, Gilles Villeneuve and the other legends. So desperately tragic. I heard the other day that people are posting photos of themselves next to lthe stone which Michael Schumacher fell on” - I was very angry with that <grr>

I may have said before that I can't have a bolognese without a glass of Chianti. Well it is Dry January and I have gone one better.

I have made from scratch meat free bolognese, without Chianti.

All this before a loss too.
