First and last time I think I will hear anyone compare Saints to City

I doubt it really.

Although my OP has a point, that football rarely goes to plan and one game is often very different to another.

Losing to Cardiff in the new managers first game after 2 days in the job where the result could have really gone either way is somewhat of a cheap shot of negativity that isn’t really necessary, imo.

Yeah there's a few of us discussing their transfers on another board after I found this from a Spuds fan:

It's nuts, it was obvious that most of their signings were terrible but they got all excited about players like Tosun. Now they've got even more old unsellable players than us, plus Zouma and Andre Gomes are on loan so not there next year, and Pickford is not actually good.

They don't seem too fussed as they reckon their owner (the guy who was part of Arsenal iirc) is caked and is just pumping money in

So whilst Son knows the rules, neither Simon Hooper (shock horror - he was the referee we had against Leicester) and Sky are both clueless. Bamba got booked, so Son didn't have to go off following treatment (Son waiving the imaginary card was clear proof that we knew he didn't need to go off).

Watford actually.

They have made some decent-to-good signings in there; Richarlison isn't poor value for what they paid, Keane seems to have recovered form, Digne looks like a good signing. But ye gods are they handing out massive paycheques; in an era where virtually every club has seen revenue growth outpace wages, Everton has somehow conspired to go in the opposite direction. From the 2017-18 accounts, their wage bill was significantly higher than Spurs', for god's sake.

And the truly mad bit? They've been doing this while having revenues effectively in line with our own. Maybe +/- a couple mil.
