Sorry for the inflammatory thread title but the whole situation is getting a little ridiculous now. Sounds like he's stalling on a new deal (see below article) - if he can't see that SAFC is without doubt the best club in the world for him to continue his development he is utterly clueless. Starting to look like he only cares about the money and has an inflated sense of self-worth, in which case he's not the kind of player we want hanging around the place like a bad smell. Been there, done that. Get rid. Can see him going the way of B£nt, only with 1/10th of the success. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...ws/sunderland-set-deadline-josh-maja-15609297 “With Josh, he has been made a final offer and set a deadline of the end of next week,” said Ross. “If he agrees that, great. If not, we will understand where we are at as a club and the club will have to make a decision on how they move that forward.” Asked whether Maja would have to be sold if he does not sign a new deal, Ross added: “It’s not just my decision - I’d like to keep him at the club - but I also understand the business model of the club and how it views its assets, and how they might depreciate in value for one reason or another.”
Sad that it’s because most footballers are clueless that they are obliged to have the agent who then uses their cluelessness to screw their career for their own quick buck. I think that the word stalling says it all . The agent is telling him to wait and see what offers he can find .
I dont think yet is the time to knock him. If somebody offers him double his wage, a higher league or more security we would nearly all do it. Keeping his options open is understandable. Not the best player in the world imo but he scores goals and thats what counts. Lets wait until he signs or he doesnt and see what the reasoning is.
**** this reasonableness ****. If he doesn't sign he's a kernt. He's scoring goals for one of the better L1 clubs, but has done jack **** against Championship-level teams, let alone those in the Prem. Two words: Joel Asoro
When you're hot property and in demand you have to give it a lot of thought and make decisions lightly. So I'll judge when he makes his decision and until. Just hope he makes the right choice. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
Yes, two sides to this and it is not looking great that he is stalling. He is holding out for the best deal but he is not ready for prem or even Championship yet. A two year deal at SAFC would allow him to develop in a team structure he knows with the game time he needs. Anything else is a gamble for him. As was said already, look at Joel Assoro
I think he’d score at championship level from watching him this season. He has the touch and ability. Asoro looked ok Without setting the world alight in an awful side. Maja looks a much better player in a decent (to watch) side. I have no qualms with Maja not signing yet. His agent is the issue and will be filling his head with premier league dreams most likely so he can line his pockets and throw Maja on the scrap heap when it goes tits up. He’s a kid with a lot of money and very little outside of football. None of us know all of the ins and outs but I’m glad the club have set a deadline for him
Not so sure on the deadline myself, think it’s the first mistake the owners have made. I said few days back my thoughts are he will sign if we go up. It’s not like he’s a £10million asset. Now they’ve said sign by end of week or be sold, that’s how it is reading, and I’m not sure we gain anything from that. We’ve further weakened our hand and lowered a potential sale price by publicising this information as well, it’s a strange situation.
Think it’s telling the lad that the club will not be fooked about. They’ve obviously made a good offer, and want a decision - it’s Maja’s To make, let’s hope common sense prevails. If he declines, sell to the highest bidder immediately and get in reinforcements!! Also drop him and make him train with the other kids, until he is sold. Just my opinion like!! The days of players holding our club to ransome has got to end, otherwise we will never move on!! Bart
We would not get anywhere near his value if we sell him now, we should do everything we can to get him signed. He is far better than some on here rate him its all down to opinion of course but at this time we cannot afford to lose him in my opinion, if we do it should not be for the want of trying.
I don't get that by the way squint, anyway I would either keep Maja till the end of the season and he goes for nowt, rather than get £3m because we cannot replace him for that money, none of our players will get anywhere near his tally, why are Wyke or Sinclair not scoring as well, I would rather sell Sinclair, Oviedo and another player to keep him. By the way how is Assoro doing now.
Selling off loan players? Wyke has been injured most of this season. Although, you already knew that being a WUM account and all.
I don't agree with starting a thread calling Maja a mug. A mug for what? Nobody knows the full story. I don't think our fan base will ever change, sadly.
