Not condoning it.but the amount of abuse players get its no surprise now and again we see a player react like that
Forgot about the Valery tackle. In a VAR world that would have been given, but the Prowse one wouldn't.
Pretty sure they would both be given as they are both against the rules. Its subjective whether the Prowse one was strong enough for him to go down but a push in the back is illegal either way. At least Valery was trying to win the ball.
We are going to need a new Match Thread for Chelsea Wednesday 2nd January 2019 19:45 Kick off Chelsea v Southampton Referee: Jonathan Moss Assistants: Harry Lennard, Amdy Halliday Fourth official: Simon Hooper
As I said in a post yesterday, you do not need to be, or have been a referee or a pundit to understand the rules of the game and see that it was a clear penalty, the player made no attempt to get the ball and he pushed/nudged JWP in the back.
I sort of agree but because pushes are much more subjective I think the ref has a lot more grey area before the decision gets overturned. Whereas when the slow motion camera shows Valery didn't get the ball, there's not much choice but to give it. Although I don't want to second guess the magical and mysterious ways that VAR will be implemented.
Yay. The refs just keep on givin’. Well, I guess they don’t actually. Unless you are the most biased Saints supporter who chew off refs and where the Top 6 are allowed to crack one off over the chops of the best refs in the world.
Seen the PEH tackle for the first time since I saw it live at the game. Looks worse every time you see it. Certainly worse than Carroll's the other night.
Hmmm.. ...I might have to watch MOTD again. I thought one of the worst aspects of the first half was JWP's failure to support Ramsay. Ironically he was more visible when Valery came on and we went to a back 5.
We were a back 5 most of the match with Prowse being the RWB and Ramsay the RCB. When Valery came on we moved to 4 3 3 and Valery became the RB and Prowse became the middle CM.
JWP was playing right wing back from kick off til Valery came on. Whenever we were sat in our base shape the back five was basically flat. When we pressed we would morph into an almost 4-4-2 with the view I imagine of not asking Targett or Ramsay to get particularly far up field without the ball. With the ball we tried to be back in the base shape with JWP and Targett getting forward as fullbacks and Lemina playing the Armstrong role. Of course whenever you play a fluctuating shape it's not going to be perfectly uniform by nature, and it didn't always look like that... But that was the principle. And JWP played to it effectively and Ramsay wasn't exposed. If anything the greater problem was Lemina's lack of protection of Targett.
