I was eleven! The wireless was the sole entertainment at home & I remember so many of those programmes with deep affection. I still enjoy the radio today.
It's one of those things that will probably be gone in a generation. My kids wouldn't know how to operate a radio. It is as relevant to their lives as a blacksmith.
Christian Eriksen has revealed he named his son Alfred https://www.bt.dk/fodbold/har-holdt...-nu-afsloerer-christian-eriksen-soennens-navn Somewhere on the internet, somebody is going through Anglo-Saxon history to see if this has anything to do with a new contract...
Barry McGuigan's a Spur.. https://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/former-wba-boxing-champ-celebrates-spurs-win-on-twitter/ I didn't know that. Good man.
Very true. The press gave Spurs hell for losing to Gornik,Poland in the European Cup of 1961/2.....and we were 4-0 down at one time, but finishing 4-2. So for the return Spurs fans dressed as angels. However, the local vicar got pissed of with that and complained. So in the next round (after slaughtering Gornik 8-1 and a Polish forward named Pohl scoring the goal of the match) the fans changed to Roman warriors! One had the name Spurticus on his shield! The crowds singing "Glory,Glory….." would have made your eyes water!
Must have missed that one but I have all the Spurs books of the 60's. .. and other rubbish! Johnny Haines, Harry Gregg,Frank Swift,Eddie Hapgood etc etc.I even have an Arsenal book from the 30's.What the hell am I doing with that?????
I used to sit in the living room listening to Journey Into Space with a poker in my hand in case an alien came through the door....I'm feeling much better now!
Did you tell them about transistor radios,Brian. I had one for years.Carried it everywhere.I think it died of overwork!
I remember him fighting a perfect fight to beat Pedroza. I rooted for him as he's from Northern Ireland, as was my grandfather's family. Armagh, I found out last week.
I've got roots in Antrim and am still in contact with them. It's a beautiful part of the world and well worth a trip
Lemmy was my favourite in Journey Into Space. I used to quiver with excitement listening to each episode. They seemed so far fetched, pure fantasy, imagine if we had known then what we know now!
I came across a set some years ago and I'm sure it could be today as one listen's Remember, they went to the other side of the moon and to Mars......and accidently sent back in time to prehistoric earth. There was a song sung about "Lunar".....and that nasty Whittaker? Oh I'm too old!!!!!! I'll be reminding you of "Up The Pole" next. "OOOOHHHHH, you'll never guess!"
