The BBC is managerially bloated and wasteful (it recently admitted to going £27 million over budget on a new Eastenders set) and it needs to be broken up imo. It's simply too unwieldy, uncompetitive and uncommercial. There are parts, like the radio, that could be kept under some sort of government grant basis. But news and art should be out there competing with Netflix, Amazon etc on a level playing field. As the article says, the hived off entity would probably do well on a subscription basis. Sky have.

Good read. Speaks to my bias in any case. Always annoys me when the BBC send an individual reporter from each of World Service, Breakfast, News24, Newsnight, Five Live, Radio4, BBC Online etc etc to cover one national story. By contrast you often just see one Sky reporter at these events. I exaggerate to make a point, but it does irritate me.

Would they all use the same cameraman or do they turn up with their own teams

Great to see the immigrant surge across the channel and expose exactly how weak are at keeping them out ... We are leaving Europe so expect them esp France to carry on doing the excellent job they have done up to now ... careful what you wish for as the French will be stopping The policing of their shores

It’s a green light now watch it increase now

Let’s see the UK customs for what they are ... poor and under equipped

Take control of your borders? they couldn’t look after a piss up in a Wetherspoons

At least the EU had control ... the UK will learn the hard way

I don’t disagree with the second half of your post but it can’t be a good thing that even a relatively small number of people are risking their lives in this way.

I get the impression Sajid Javed feels a need to come across as overly hard on this too as he’s a brown guy with a foreign-sounding name so the Daily Mail mob will be on his back if not.

Maybe one of the boats that used to park up off the Libyan coast encouraging the economic migrants could be relocated to the English channel
Not quite as glamorous admittedly but they could help all those people desperate to escape the ****hole that must be france

If the French don't cooperate, they'll have a Calais type jungle x 100. Won't go down well with Manny Mac's dwindling vote support

Why would they be willing to risk their lives to escape from your wonderful adopted country? Enlighten me...

Because they are not welcome in France. The French don't want them. You can't get work in France due to their protectionism. Plus the shops are closed on Wednesdays. :1980_boogie_down:

Amongst all the bullshit, nice to see people like Mark Prince get honoured with an OBE. An anti knife crime activist and father of Kiyan, who was a QPR schoolboy player stabbed to death in 2006 aged 15 years old, he set up the Kiyan Prince Foundation to try and warn kids of the dangers of carrying a knife and gang life.
A good man well deserved to get some kind of recognition.
