No mate, see this is the difference between Sunderland level and my club level, if it was all about decent football i would have stopped going decades ago. It's about the atmosphere, the passion and in some cases the rivalry. Give me a Charlton/Millwall game any day over a Sunderland game. It would be like the North East having no Newcastle, hence no rivalry, no banter. 10k cramped into a shhite ground is more electric than a Wembley with 80k stuck in their seats.
But we are playing at the same level at the moment. Don't knock us cos we have a large ground and large crowds.
I'm not knocking you, i'm saying it how i see it and how i have experienced it over decades. You seem to get hung up on the big crowds, i don't envy you them. Our Chairman wants to move us to a bigger ground, to double the attendance, i've been openly and vocally against it. I don't expect you to understand that, but don't see that in any way shape or form of me begrudging you big crowds.
We had Roker Park before the SOL...Now that's where people were crammed in, and the atmosphere you crave.
Exactly, so you do see my point. Big crowds don't always make great atmosphere. It's like going to Man Utd, 70k+ but full of tourists in sections that never sing.
I'm no fan of the Prem or what football has become., and I've far more respect for lower league fans than prem ones. I'm sure I've mentioned before about one of my early visits to Gillingham. Some old plod was wandering round us in the ground, taking all pleasant and asking where we parked. I was talking to one of yours, who said the plod would tell your lads where we could be found if we'd parked away from the normal spots. Sure enough, after the game our van had quite a welcoming committee. I wouldn't want to go back to those days, but wouldn't have missed it for the world, but if a game today was my first, I doubt I'd have bothered sticking at it. You had to rely on mates, not numbers or plod.
I think that makes the point about numbers. That handful of police and two small barriers kept you all apart.
They was comparing Luton's points tally against Liverpool's on the EFL show, you ought to be ashamed with your millions
Yeah, proper ashamed of us sitting at the top of the league, 10pts clear and undefeated mate #gutted Just the 28pts from the last twelve games too, shocking. PS...I believe my local side (Stags) are second in the English form charts (unless it's changed since last week, don't know what they did today). Not that i give too much of a **** about them
I'm actually quite pleased to see you sitting top of the league for a variety of reasons. I'm particularly happy you stuffed Arsenal 5-1, was always sick of their Wenger out supporters, so seeing them get slaughtered eased the pain of my lads getting pumped.
Nope, just hate seeing the same teams dominate the league, season after season. Anyway you ain't won it yet, so even Leicester are one up on you, as there is every chance you could just end up being a diving chopper before the season ends.
Not counting my chickens yet, been here before. We do look different to before but I'm not getting excited yet.... ... might change if we win on Thursday though
Always used to disappoint me massively though, seeing 127 Tranmere or Rochdale fans rattling around in our away end like beans in a tin. That was the biggest negative about that division for me. That, and the state of the refs, most were fatter and slower than me. A lot of the football was surprisingly good.
Yeah it didn't make for a great atmosphere when there's about 31 Hartlepool fans on a Tuesday night. I bet like the Southern clubs for us though a few of the Northern clubs take decent followings there.
