    Hi Dan, is it you?

A senior civil servant working on Brexit has accused the government of playing up the project fear to increase pressure to support May's plan. He has also addressed concerns that leaving without a deal will cause major problems as untrue.

The civil servant explained: "Every day there is some fresh claim in the press- backed up by people who should (and perhaps really do) know better- that we must accept whatever outrageous terms we are offered by an intransigent EU because we are not prepared for no deal and it would be a disaster.. If true, it would be a terrible indictment not only of this government but also of our civil service."

This basically backs up what Dan has been saying for quite a few weeks.

Let there be no doubt leaving without a deal will be a disaster... leaders from every section of the private and public sectors say so..... and there is not one forecast which indicates we will profit from such a deal.

It is an incredibly dangerous road for any govt to embark upon...

Nothing to emote about... all this 'project fear' and 'remoaning' emotionality invented by and put out by Brexiteers is just manipulation by those who seek to influence others....

Staying with facts and projections a no-deal Brexit is just not conceivable for the well-being of this country and our institututions

I despair at all this fear mongering about a no-deal scenario.

Our government's bargaining position should have started from a no-deal default and then seen what the EU might offer, rather than taking the very circuitous and nationally harmful route of keeping us in by backdoor and slight of hand methods.
By staying in the EU, in the manner we are, we will be royally punished for progressing a leave scenario as far as it has already gone.

The timid approach, negotiated by reluctant leavers has resulted in a poor outcome. The establishment and multinational companies, aided by remoaners are simply attempting to sabotage the nation's decision to leave the crumbling institution known as the EU. In my experience companies will always find a way to overcome short term problems such as those envisaged in a no deal Brexit scenario. The tariff issue is a red herring, currency fluctuation is a much bigger problem faced by businesses.

A no deal scenario would only be thinkable,or make sense, if we were a self sufficient country on the verge of building socialism in one country. As it is we will be stepping out alone into a globalized World where the 'rule makers' are the EU. China and the USA - break your connections and you become 'rule takers', as simple as that. There are a few countries which manage to live outside of the rules of the big three - Russia, North Korea and Iran to name a few but these are very different cases to that of the UK.

I totally disagree. The UK's long history of trading, our flexible and pragmatic workforce, and hopefully with sensible government assistance the UK can trade extremely well with the rest of the world and the EU. The trading relationship between the US and the EU will no doubt be renegotiated soon at the expense of those left in the EU, times are a changing.....

Two of my friends in for English exams today, one of whom is a senior nurse at a hospital of world renown and has been there for two decades. £150 fee and a 06:00 train to London also at her expense. Outrageous. I know of people who've already packed their bags and left, University lecturers no less, and who can blame them? I'm ashamed of my country.

The reality is.. Whichever way you cut it, the Government is not fit for purpose. They led us into.. this .... Mess...

I also do not buy the unsubstantiated rhetoric of the ERG and its adherants.. They have offered zero in terms of strategy.. And have in fact moaned and conspired against May. Shocking state of affairs.. Natural party of Government?? I think not.

I'm still waiting, nearly 2 years later, how Brexit will benefit the population of the UK. Not soundbites or 'sovereignty' nonsense, how will it improve the day to day life of UK citizens.

Can anyone please give me one example, just one single example?

Yep but was hoping some of the Brexit enthusiasts on here could shed some light. So far I've not even seen one single example of something tangible the Leave vote will offer us. I will now never be able to live in France with my family and enjoy the same rights as I used to, whilst also paying more for everything I purchase abroad.

Can one Brexiter please give me an example of one single benefit of leaving?

The Spanish Prime Minister has reassured Brits living there that their rights will be unchanged after the UK's exit from the EU provided the UK matches the treatment of Spanish citizens here. It is easy when common sense prevails instead of bullying from some EU negotiators. I wonder if Macron will now see sense.

Senior UK border officials have called on their French counterparts to properly manage the Northern French coast to prevent the hordes of smuggling gangs from openly operating their illegal trade. The Home Office has warned it is only a matter of time before people lose their lives.

You were always told that there was no way you could protect an island border. You should stop trying to blame others, and if you are so concerned about loss of life, start buying some boats.

The blame obviously lies with the useless French police and coastguards, are they all on holiday or dealing with riots elsewhere?

You cannot blame others when you wish to be an independent country. You have to find a way to deal with the problems and not expect others to keep baling you out. £100 million just spent on emergency measures to obtain ferry space. Maybe you should spend some of it on border force personal and equipment. Of course it is all a waste of scarce resources as highlighted by the Met. police. You need to work out what you really want to spend limited income on, as it has been clearly shown that there will be no savings by leaving the EU.

“There will be no change for EU citizens already lawfully resident in the UK,” the campaign says. “These EU citizens will automatically be granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK and will be treated no less favourably than they are at present,” says Vote Leave on its official website.

To ask for any payment is treating them less favourably. Why should they have to pay a penny?

Have you not worked out the gangs of smugglers are operating on French soil with apparent impunity? Are the French services so understaffed or so stretched with the ongoing civil disobedience?

No wonder the Italians have complained about the useless French border force.
