Don’t wanna lose Toby but he'll be 30 at the end of the season having given us 4 (well, 3 and a half) good years of service and we paid just £11m for him. Getting £25m - albeit below the market value of a player of his calibre - isn’t so terrible in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully he does surprise us and ink a new deal but I’ve been prepared for his departure since last summer so I won’t be surprised if he does go elsewhere.
Berge Watch TuttoMercatoWeb are reporting that we have begun talks for Sander Berge, with us willing to meet Genk's £22.5m valuation No surprise if true, as Dier's appendix going coupled with Wanyama's ongoing knee problems and Amos' ACL tear has left a gaping hole in central midfield, and £22.5m is a reasonable price to pay for a squad option with potential in an area where he's sorely needed Also, if he has a daughter, one day she may look like this... please log in to view this image
DH likes this rumour. Very promising player, have mentioned his name a number of times as a possible solution for our CM/ DM problems.
There's also this nugget of information from Berge's Wikipedia Sander Berge comes from a basketball playing family, with his father, Swedish mother and older brother all having played basketball at international level. His brother has also played for top flight teams Centrum Tigers and Asker Aliens. Berge is also the grandson of Ragnar Berge who played as a left-back for Vålerenga from 1945 until 1957, and was capped once by Norway (in 1955). The rest of his immediate family are internationally-capped basketball players yet he plays football. He's as Spursy as they come!
Who is dropping off the CL squad to enable him to play? It would seem weird to boot out Wanyama or Dembele just as they are fit having coped well without them.
Players, especially defenders and goalkeepers, seem to have a much longer career span at the highest level than in previous eras (diet, training regime, etc.). On that basis, and the fact he's been instrumental in the improvement of our defence, I would still offer Toby a 5 year deal. Maldini played for Milan until he was 41.
Those two exactly and it wouldn’t be weird, they’re going to be far off the pace when back and neither have actually been good enough over the past 18 months when they have been fit. If rumours are also to be believed, they’re part of a batch the club wants to move on next month.
Agree CBs can play on longer, although the length of the deal we offered Toby wasn’t the issue, he supposedly wanted £180k when we were offering £130k. Many feel we should pay what he wants and in someways I agree but when you consider that’d make him the third highest paid CB in Europe, I think it’s a bit extreme. £130k-£150k would be a fair wage in my opinion. Plus, if we paid him £180k, it’d be an insult to Vertonghen who’s just as deserving of such a salary.
your lot sacked Lampards dad and uncle and he then left after you lot had spent 2 yrs claiming he was **** and only in the team cos of his dad and uncle...you lot then spent the next 12 years giving him dogs abuse . Forgive me if I think all you have to say here is anything but third rate wumming Any how I do not get hammers anger towards us....we may have got Carrick, Kanute and Defoe from you but surely you got the better deal getting Zamora and Etherington
I'm sorry but Wanyama's not fit. He's scarcely played in a season and a half and any appearance he has made has immediately been followed by about 6 weeks further of recovery. When he does play, he's unrecognisable as the same player. In a heartbeat, I'd drop him from the CL squad for Foyth Prior to his injury, Mousa's decline was all too apparent. Since 2015/16 he has declined season by season. Putting Vic to one side as a non-option, he's the lesser player of Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko and Winksy. If we get a half decent offer, I think that we'll take it and rightly so. Lovely guy and a great talent in his day but those days as a player in a PL top side have passed. The fact that they were really great 2 seasons ago and we don't have the resources to buy replacements for what they were then, shouldn't blind us to the fact that they aren't good enough anymore. Replacements should be brought in if we can find them or we should be prepared to leave one of them out of the CL squad in favour of Foyth, who may be needed and capable of delivering a performance of the required level.
Funny, the reason we signed Defoe, Parker and Carrick from your lot was because we could offer Premier League football - while you couldn't
I don't agree about Dembele. As for Wanyama, if he can recover properly he should be kept, if not he should be moved on. I'm sure our medical staff will make the right call. I would take Llorente out of the CL squad for Foyth if Dembele and Wanyama are kept.
Dembele, Wanyama, Janssen, GK and Vorm should all be moved on in January. They’re either not good enough or not reliable enough. All five have contributed absolutely nothing so far to this season. Dembele can barely play 90 minutes when fit and when he has he’s been unable to play the following game, not forgetting he’s been nowhere at the level of pre-16/17. Wanyama has only had one good season with us and been injured more or less for 18 months now, seemingly plays one game then misses ten, you just cannot rely on that. Janssen likely won’t ever get a game again. GK is... GK. Vorm is now third choice and wasting a Prem/ CL squad place due to being a foreign lad. Four of those five are wasting valuable Prem squad places, three of them wasting valuable CL ones.
