Fabianski made a great save to deny Armstrong in exactly that situation. If only he'd fizzed it in the near post....
Bout right. Still, an entertaining game, maybe we could have come away with a point, but didn’t deserve more.
I like the look of Gunn TBH. I think he will be first team goalkeeper in the not too distant future and would have thought more starts than now. He is definately the future.
We did try to sign Antonio in League One, but Reading wouldn’t release him. He was great for us, but I didn’t really think he was a PL player at the time; shows what I know. The reason we weren’t pressing as high tonight as against Arsenal, was because we couldn’t keep possession in their half, and when they broke they were just too quick and too clever for us.
About time we got away with one of those, given all the occasions on which we’ve been robbed. If there was any justifice, it would have earned us at least a point. The football gods still owe us.
And I’ll just call him an overgrown lazy cheating lumox. Glad it’s you lot paying him 70 grand a week, because imo he’s worth about half what a care assistant earns.
He's been missing for a season and a half, but now he seems to have rediscovered his beast mode from wherever Bilic and Moyes hid it. IFinishing lets him down a little, if he had a bit more composure he'd be ****ing awesome
Tonight just served to remind us that without the pressing we are exactly the same as when Hughes was here, except for being better organised. I think the lack of energy was also one of the reasons for so many being caught in possession, simply because nobody was running into decent positions to receive the ball, although there were times when some were just too indecisive and took too many touches. I would give them a couple of days rest or just do the lightest training, to give us a fighting chance against City’s quick one touch stuff.
Just one of those nights. They were pretty well organised and we were below par. Only 3 days to our next game, can't feel sorry for ourselves. No reason to think we can't get anything from Sundays game. We only lost to an injury time goal to a rampant city in the fixture last season. PEH back as skipper should make a difference.
Two observations from the match that I already knew, Lemina and Romeu have never worked well together as a central midfield pair and the whole team suffers and Shane as a solo Striker has never been effective either. West Ham were much better than I thought they would be and I hope and pray that Pierre stays fit/unsuspended for the duration of the season.
