It’s very hard to believe anything that comes out of the club’s mouth about Aribo, given the circumstances.
If it's Lee Bowyer himself who has said it, I would very much hope he would not lie to cover up secret sale plans of one of his best players. That would make him more than just willing to work under this regime. I must believe at this point that Aribo's injury is genuine and it does not sound good. I feel for him - he's a good young player.
According to Bexleyboy on ITTV Aribo's injury could keep him out until the end of January. If that is the case it cannot be a serious ligament injury. The end of January is only about 6 weeks away. This means that (assuming his recovery goes to schedule) Joe Aribo should be able to regain match-sharpness in February and help Charlton again in their promotion push. Will a potential buyer want to shell out millions of pounds on a player with an injured knee? I would hope not. Though I guess the kind of Clubs who could afford him are not the ones who would need him to drop intantly into their first XI. A cynic might suggest fans are being 'softened up' a little to accept future news of his departure. I still hope Lee Bowyer would not be party to that kind of behaviour.
A yellow card question about Krystian Bielik; Bielik now has 6 yellow cards so far this season. 5 of those have been picked up in his last 12 games (4 in his last 5 starts). I looked at the FA rules and I couldn't understand them clearly. They seem to say that in the EFL a yellow card remains 'on record' for 19 games after it is given. So if a player gets 5 yellow cards in any 20 match period he will presumably suffer a suspension. Until today Bielik did have 5 yellow cards, but not all within a 20 match period. Now he has 5 yellows in his last 12 games. If I have understood the FA rules correctly this means Bielik will be suspended for the Barnsley game. (see screen-cap of FA rules below) However, I may be wrong. Is there another rule affecting yellow card suspensions, such as a cut-off date? If anybody knows I would be grateful for a definitive answer.
Let’s see where Beilik is 2pm Saturday. Sh!t result, not gonna slate Bowyer as would’ve taken this position in August
Crap result, especially when you find out Coventry hadn't won in nine games. The Arribo injury caps off a crap day. After what Bow said, I'll take a january return to fitness, but how many here think the genius that is RD will invest in cover for Arribo plus another strengthening signing to maintain the promotion push?
I think strengthening is out of the question. The best we can hope for is a couple of loanees in after some players are moved on. It will be arguable whether on balance that will make things better or worse - I guess it's up to Lee Bowyer to make the best of what he has after the window closes. If Aribo will be out for weeks rather than months I imagine RD will conclude specific cover for him is not necessary (if he thinks about it at all). Barnsley and Sunderland are two of our next three opponents, along with the inconsistent Walsall. Had Charlton won the Coventry game I would be pretty confident of getting 4, 6 or 7 points from our next three games. Now I'll admit I am doubtful of getting more than 3 points.
That's a bit harsh Elfs. I know he's a mate of RD but he hasn't done too badly so far this season. I hope LB gets his chance to finish what he started.
Charlton Athletic has been finished since the Watford 5-0, and will remain so until Dushitelet does one. You must realise that Mr Plumb.
