I think we must have a lot of members that are gaddaffi loyalists and they just dropped out of signal range. I don't think there's anything behind the 'have you ever seen cest in the same room as gaddaffi rumours though.
There has certainly been a lot of unjustified aggro (towards Cest and Chappaz in particular) which turned me off, the Bruce situation certainly dampened (almost killed) my enthusiasm and three weeks of holiday kept me away. However, I'm back from holiday, Cest is back but Bruce is still there, two reasons to get back to forum action and one reason to just grin and bear it. With the international break we're all a bit in limbo but once Argus's predictions are posted, there'll be a lot of action, I'm sure. Well done, Syd. You kept stirring the pot while lots of us were distracted.
good points chats but the agro towards cest brings the problem, well maybe more the dilema. Cest has his point of view and so do others and I dont think anyone wants to shut anyone up but its how do we all have our say without it getting into an argument. Maybe its just a case of backing off, logging off and calming down all round. I'm not blaming anyone just trying to fathom out an answer, if there is one.
For me I've just been too busy simple as. In work for 8 start trying to keep up and before I know it, its 5 and home time. I am reading though honest sir. As has been said to nothing really new for a while think we all kind of know where we stand re BIB BOB BOE gyans arse size etc. When we thrash chelsea it'll be mobbed again by the fair weathers... Me included in that BTW I really appreciate the hardcore keeping it ticking so in me spare mins I get summat to muse over though.
With most topics, whether its religion, politics, Microsoft vs Sony vs Wii vs PC, sport you will always have heated arguments that a lot of the time go OTT and a bit childish, there isnt a lot you can do about it im afraid. Its always been a bit dead over here though really, topics that look like they have some legs, die after 1-2 days, on the toon board they run and run and run forever. After 12:30am this board just dies completely, no one on at all, but the toon board is still thriving, its like our supporters think there is a 12pm watershed (I know work and sleep and all that boring stuff, but there must be some who can get on at that time). as for the hardcore, I think other boards have more hard core posters, which helps, we may have more posters in general (apart from the newcastle board), but they will have more with over 500 posts as a guideline.
Surely it the arguments that these forums are all about! I firmly believe that the Cestria leaving saga must have been down to him having a bad day or something, because it was certainly out of character, and I dare bet is something he regretted very shortly after he took the decision. If we all agreed on everything, I would imagine it would be a pretty dull place. As for Chappaz, I'm quite sure he knew/knows fine he is provoking a reaction by the nature of his posts, and it certainly didn't keep him away from the Sunderland board.
Personally, I very rarely contribute as there is a severe lack of sensible football discussion, just a lot of people complaining over complete speculation and also way too much pessimism and unrealistic conversation. I like the passion of many of the fans on here, but many also annoy me, to the extent where it isn't even worth writing anything of any value because it gets shot down (and this has happened to me) because I haven't posted enough (kind of chicken and egg situation)...and also find some of the articles a bit pointless. e.g. arguing who has the best fans etc.
ha, know what you mean, being in a different time zone, i can go for hours before some-one wakes... usually syd is the first.......
I think you might have already done what was necessary, Syd, the day after Cest's 'goodbye'. When I first came onto this board in January, there was a lot of heated debate about Bruce and occasionally it went over the top. But I liked the new board. But by May, it had changed - it had got to the point where the first three words on some people's posts were "F*ck off, you .....". It seemed like they weren't having a good day unless they'd abused someone. In the end, I just took their wise advice ... and f**ked off! I've popped in for a read after games but haven't bothered posting anything since June. Now you might think I'm a big old softie, but let me tell you I was dragged up down the docks in a none-too-kindly household when the Luftwaffe was still pinging us - if I need to dish it out, I can do it with the best of them. But being able to is one thing, thinking it right to abuse and insult other SAFC fans is another. I don't treat people like that on here, and don't see any good reason to take it on here either. Some people don't like long posts like Cest's (or mine) but surely the answer is just don't read them. To tell someone to 'F**k off the board with their long essays' and hurl a pile of abuse at them isn't debate. It's just pig ignorance. There are few people on this board that disagree more than you and me - about Bruce, about Bent, about Henderson, about ...... But we've never been ignorant to each other, Syd. The day after Cest's 'goodbye', you wrote something on here about restraint and respect for other supporters - and I think it's worked. This last couple of weeks it's been more like January. Well done. p.s. sorry for the long 'essay'.
welcome back cutey, I think the starting point is to say I was wrong, we are at times but sometimes its hard to admit it. Not wrong in opinion but wrong in reaction. Lets hope a good performance and maybe even a win on Saturday will help.
Am away for a few days from tomorrow, so hopefully wont miss out on too much on here. All I ask is NOBODY leave any comment that is just begging for a double - or even a single - entendre, otherwise I'll be gutted! Still love you all and will be here for an hour or so tonight. KTF. FTM. x
The way Cest bullies the topics puts me off and his way of rubbishing any opinion that doesn't agree with his views stops me from responding a lot of times, This is MY Last response, unlike Cest who has TWICE signed off in a pet then resurfaced just when I thought it was safe to contribute. So I am off for good.
Its their opinion, yes he can come accross a bit defensive/antagonistic even, best form of reply to that though is to be cool, calm and collected and dont get into a slanging match, and eventually they do calm down. I would never even consider leaving here or anywhere else because someone has strong views and even sometimes goes overboard expressing them, let them get on with it, I will still enjoy the forum (and even still enjoy their stubborness).
Just bog all going on is there, there are only so many topics you can go over again, and again, and again. Once we get 3 points on the board I am sure things will pick up.
