I'm a TOFI. Thin outside, fat inside. My liver and Pancreas are carrying scary mounts of fat, hence the diabetes. :emoticon-0106-cryin

So, joined a gym now the clocks have changed and it's dark of an evening and my runs have been curtailed.

Top gym, not local leisure centre but University sports campus gym. Loads (and loads) of lycra clad girls with fantastic arses and no fat ****s (bar me,obvs).

First discovery is treadmill running is a piece of piss compared to cross country. Hurts a lot less. That running across cow fields has done me the world of good.

Will have to stop staring at arse and get on with some work there from now though. Get back into it.

This thread should be restuck ffs!! @brb

Yes, the girls at my gym are ridiculously fit and encourage me to go three-four times a week.

They basically work out in sports bra and shorts :)

Given up smoking and running twice a week, plus two core workouts too.

Treadmill running is easy. If you train on a treadmill for a road race it can feel like the road is sapping energy from your legs. I go through bursts of training and usually find that I am pleasantly surprised at how quickly I can get my fitness and times up to a decent level. Unfortunately the time needed for my body to fully recover gradually gets longer as well!

Ideally I'd still run outside on the road once a week but where I'm working is right on top of a steep hill and all routes lead down. I'm ****ed if I'm running back up again.

I found a few cross country route that involved loops and staying at the top of the hill. Too dark for that now, unless I buy a head torch or something.

Got perfect (flat) seafront run at home but just haven't got time at weekends.

Found the treadmill very easy last night. Makes a nice change to be pain free too.

Seems an appropriate time to bump this, just weighed and have put on half a stone up to now over the festive period. Can't see it getting worse than that as it's more or less over now.

What's your plans to shed to the tyre? Anything specific?

Going to give up bread, that's crept back into my diet. Have another pescatarian January.

Stop eating ****ing pasties & McShit McMuffin breakfasts!

Am then gonna train like ****, make the most of the gym I pay to use.

Definitely doing a fundraiser 10k for one of our junior football clubs and, if I get my head round running in front of a crowd, will think about doing a half the following year.

    Any tips?

Haven't got any tips for the 10k, but I need to get on the fitness tip again for the new year. What with living at my folks whilst I care for my dad, I'm doing **** all fitness wise and relieving the boredom of being stuck in all day by smashing biscuits and crisps that my mum keeps stashed kept in the cupboards.

My thing is Surf/Bike/Swim. I've got swim membership so I'll get straight back on that as soon as I'm free. Was swimming half a mile every other day through october and november. I'll also get back on the bike too, I usually do 3x 10 mile off road MTB trails each week. Then surf as and when it's good. I'll have more time when my little un goes back to school and God willing, my Mum is fit enough to care for my old man again ....

If you’re starting again after a good break, start slowly. Don’t assume you’ll just be at the same level of strength and/or fitness that you were - doesn’t work that way when you get older.

Running I always do in the gym, on the track machine. My knees are ****ed from sport so I won’t ever run on concrete or tarmac. Even if your knees are still good it ain’t a bad idea and your knees and ankles will thank you for it when you get older.

I always think I hate it but i really don't, once I get going I love it.
Where I go is very busy though so it's pointless trying to plan anything. If I get a free bench then I do loads of bench press.

Similarly, getting my hands on some dumbells is half a start.

I find the treadmill to be purgatory but I have massively increased my times and distances. Am aiming to be able to run on one for an hour comfortably by end of Jan.

    Boredom is my enemy.
