Some of you may or may not know that I'm just back from volunteering in Uganda for 2 months. Anyway, while I was there, I got chatting a lad who was orphaned at the age of 14 and with 3 little brothers and sisters. He cared for them, got them through school and then when the time was right, sold the land that was left to them in order to fund his own charitable organization which brings street kids and orphans together under the banner of football...Really inspirational stuff and I donated a load of footy shirts and footballs to them (and plan to do more for them over the course of the year). Anyway, the guy who started it all, Moses, just sent me a couple of pictures from a regional tournament his U16s were involved in and after flicking through a couple of photos I was a little disappointed to see the following - thought you lot might like it though... please log in to view this image I might never've seen a Mackem in Milan, but now at least I've seen one in Kampala!
Yep they definately have good taste lol But it makes you appreciate what we have. Its a pity some of our youngster don't realise what a luxury lifestyle they have
Nice one JWAG. I think that a lot of your "mates" might have kept that quiet! Hope that you found the two months to be worthwhile.
Kudos on the volunteering mate. The only time I can see a use for religion. As has been said, our kids don't realise how lucky they are.
Well done mate..I've done a lot of studying regarding global poverty and injustice, but unlike you, I have never saw it first hand..
That is proper class. Well done mate. Strange how the most simple of things like a game of footy, can make people smile, and forget about their hardship for a while.... And the lad in the Sunderland top showing of his medal.......there's a first.
Well done JWAG! My daughter is off to Kampala next week for 10 weeks, volunteering on a project for women with HIV/AIDS. Most of them have no husband so this project helps them to support themselves and their children by creating microbusinesses; bits of sewing, cooking things, or craftwork to sell at market etc. I am very proud but nervous, but I know she will have an amazing experience which will change her life forever. I think we all sometimes need a bit of reminding about what is really important.
What nice snaps, the last one in particularly. Everyone looking happy. But what's that garish shirt the kid on the left is wearing?! It hurts my eyes. Poor children though, they're so deprived they have nothing to wear but a sunderland shirt. Imagine how desperate one would have to be. Photoshop it for good measure I say. No need to show the world this boys shame. Just cover over the boyle stuff, and replace the red with black and all will be well, all manner of things will be well...etc etc etc
It's in Uganda, put one of your mancky tops on the poor kid, he'd look like a zebra. Great pics. with a great top.
And what would my kids rather be looking at, a zebra or a mackem? Hum... lemme think... I rest my case.
yes this is what have been going on in Africa for years,in Kenya things are worse and many kids with no parent,no education,no shelter but since they have no one to run to all they can afford to give is SMILE pictures of sunderland afc keroche coming soon
I've adjusted the colours of my laptop monitor (which, let me tell you, was no small feat) so that the poor child now wears something closer to resembling a newcastle shirt. I swear the kid already looks happier. I will gladly forward a screenshot to all those interested. Frame at your own expense. I'm not here for charity.
to all my friends there,i am sorry for the private mail i wrote to some of not 606ers,we were and we are still desperate but i think i made a wrong choice, what i want all to know is that SAFC keroche is a team of young players most of them are orphans either double orphan or single orphan, most of their parent died of HIV RELATED ILLNESS,i have tried to make them feel at home no matter how hard life is,we live in a pathetic slum for gods sake, its sad they got no one to help achieve their dream but i tried,i made a desperate call here and i got response playing kits THANKS to all those who supported us,i wrote private mail to some and i regret because some say the whole THING IS A CON!i myself have been to hell and back and i hoped not to see those kids go through what i have gone through, they are performing well and i am proud of them,we have many friends who have visited us and they lives abroad they can tell if the whole thing is a con.i will soon put all their address, phone numbers and etc just to justify the team is of good faith,we have eight SAFC kits three to go but am worried we might not get them for many dint believe us,the pic will be here as i have sent them to some one who can help us put them here. All i want to say is that SAFC IS NOT A CON we and mostly my would like to take this opportunity to say sorry if we offended anyone thanks in advance .paul
