Sold - Aribo - no chance of him staying if an offer comes in, including from overseas, given his contract situation. Bauer - ditto. Big Pat has publicly stated he is leaving Charlton next summer, come what may. (Both of the above shafted by the Belgian w anker) Dillon Phillips - rumoured to be disillusioned- maybe out on loan ? Ajose - deadwood. But who would want him? Even Bury sent him back to us. Loans - Jamie Ward and Josh Cullen - both sick notes but good players on their day. Unlikely Duchatelet will want to keep other club’s injured players....
Lee Bowyer and his team have achieved the almost impossible so far this season. I fully expect Charlton to brush aside Coventry City on Boxing Day. If they do, it will be 8 wins from 9 games. That is automatic promotion form. RD is now faced with a choice he probably did not expect. He does not have to invest heavily - or even at all - in strengthening the squad in January, to give Charlton a realistic chance of promotion. Thanks to LB we already have that chance. All Duchatelet needs to do is leave the squad alone. The only player who currently looks likely to leave regardless of outside interest is Patrick Bauer. If Bauer is the only decent player we lose in this transfer window, I would say Charlton still have a 50/50 chance of winning promotion. That is an astonishing thing to say right now; I never would have believed it back in August. If however an offer comes in for Joe Aribo and/or Karlan Grant and one or both of them are sold, I think that will make LB's task much harder in the last four months of the season. Losing those players and Bauer would probably end all hope of automatic promotion, and even make finishing above 5th place very difficult. True we may make one or two loan signings - getting Jay Dasilva back for instance would be a big help, once he gets up to match sharpness. But basically the Club's future will be for RD to decide in January, and without him having to gamble a lot of money. Please just leave the squad alone Roland, and get a few new contracts sorted out. Lee Bowyer has proved now (as far as I am concerned anyway) that he is capable of doing the rest of the job.
@lardiman Why would Duchatelet award new contracts to players when Bowyer says the takeover is very close now ?
Going … Aribo …. about £200k with another £250k depending on targets being met sold to foreign club. BFG ….. about £150k to a Championship club, perhaps Bolton or even Millwall? Taylor …. if we get the right offer £1m up front with additional payments of £1m on target will get him gone Fatokele … free to anybody willing to take him Marshall … free back to Bradford Loans Jamie Ward … back to Forest, too many injuries Cullen to stay Steer to stay Bielik to stay IN Young LB loan from Championship Loan cover at right wing to cover Marshall going
I don't think any players will leave in January apart maybe for one or two loans going back to their parent Clubs. It would be madness to break up the squad.
Very optimistic, given the owner’s track record in previous January’s. Duchatelet really doesn’t given a flying fvck what league we are in, so if any low bidder comes calling for a player ...
Ok, I will do likewise if it includes releasing on freebies under contract players like Fatekole & Ajose.
If all the Belgian would be getting is £500,000. For aribo and bauer he might as well not bother and let them go for free in the summer. If we go up his made a lot more than that.
I have given up hope on the take-over, and on ever feeling what I used to feel when going to support Charlton. However I still want them to do well, for the sake of fellow fans who still feel that old passion to get behind the team. Leaving the squad alone would seem the best way now of helping Lee Bowyer to win promotion for CAFC. I know Roland doesn't listen to anybody, so he will do what he wants to do regardless of what anybody says. All I was doing was wishing that if he isn't going to sell, would he please just leave LB alone for the rest of the season and give the guy a chance to pull off an almost impossible promotion. One way or another we will know by the end of January if he is minded to do that. Nothing any of us can do about it, but there seems no harm in expressing the wish.
Amazing how the festive period brings out the miserable buggers who think they have a sense of humour.
Another pathetic attempt at a thread derailment - can you take your 5'2 frame back to your own thread please.
