Published today on the LFC sight: Next Suarez in Reds' sights 6th Sep 2011 - Latest News Damien Comolli has revealed that Liverpool are in talks to develop a partnership that could see them recruit the next Luis Suarez. The Reds secured the signature of their second Uruguayan last week when Sebastian Coates put pen to paper on a long-term deal. The negotiations further strengthened the club's links with Nacional and our Director of Football admits we are now close to establishing a formal relationship. Comolli told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I've got to thank the people from Nacional, the directors and their chairman, because they have been very helpful. They tried to help the player (Coates) complete his will, which was to come here. "They tried to find a solution for us to make it happen. We now have strong links with them because both Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates have come from this club and been developed by their academy. "We are talking about a partnership with them that we would like to create over the next three, four or five years, to see if there is more talent coming through. Maybe we can help them to develop their standards and in turn have the ability to bring those young players here. "During the Copa America they had 14 players out of the 23 who had at some point played at Nacional or were developed by Nacional. That is a fantastic record for their academy. "So it is very interesting for us. We already have a strong link with South America through Lucas, Maxi and Luis. "Since it's been such a success with Luis - and I'm sure it will be for Sebastian - why don't we try to make it an even bigger success by bringing in other players from Nacional?" This sounds interesting and i'm sure it will bear more fruit then a partnership with a random cypriot team. I think we should look at Asia with more scope too.. I mean China (and India) has a population of over a billion people (Each!!), one of them must be decent at football!!!
United's relationship with Antwerp is the most useful link I can think of as they use it as a way around work permits
I believe that these form of arrangements are the future for all top sides across Europe for a number of reasons: 1) The nature of the game now is and will continue to be global. All of the top clubs are scouring the world to find the best talent. Rather than do so 'blind' it is far better to have that talent developed locally using the training and development techniques that are common. 2) It is ourageous that youngsters are being shipped around the world in the hope that they make it to the top of a very small pinicle when their skills should be honed, under the best guidance, in their natural environment. 3) the process does not have to be one way. Our Academy already produces British players that are of a high standard but not sufficiently high enough to make it to the top. With these types of arrangements they can be offered the possibility of furthering their careers in football in another country - possibly offering them a higher standard of football and income than would be available in non-league/lower league football. 4) The training standards and the quality of the trainers themselves will rise as more people are working to the same standards. 5) LFC is a global brand. This brand will be further enhanced by the developement of activities associated with 'local' clubs. I'm sure that, given time, I could identify many more points for consideration but these are just a few for your consideration.
I perosnally think the appaorach taken by some clubs is just wrong. show me the list of players city of utd have gotten from those vast lists of clubs? I would prefer to hear about us linking up with the likes of national of uraguay to develop not a feeder club thing but rather a partnership apporach to common developemnt as i am sure our academy can learn for such a successful set up. It's kind of funny to think that we english seem to think we are the best at developing players yet rob all and sundry of players at 16-18 to suplement our sides.
Nacional, Boca juniors and a promising Asian club would be my suggested feeder clubs. Feed money into their youth system for reduced prices and first refusal on their best players.
I agree 100%. I also think Liverpool should develop links with the Republic of Ireland, as they have massive support and the clubs ie Home Farm, Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda United helped them out before. Liverpool fan Paul Cook is manager of Sligo Rovers and thats where Seamus Coleman at Everton came from, and he's a really promising player.
I know what you mean, Utd have had Anderson and the twins from it but that's all. I suppose that if you just get the odd player and maybe one superstar it would be worthwhile though.
I would have said River as they were producing more than Boca but, ahem, well they are in the second division now! I would establish a link with Japan. The Dutch Coerver training with the youth and Zico's Brazilian style that was implemented when he was coach has come a long way and now Japan are producing some excellent talent, Men and Women! Look at the likes of Honda, Kagawa, Enzo, Nakamura, Nakata who have all come through, there is a big talent pool there I feel.
