I wonder how many people know or even consider the effect of using alternative materials has on the environment? The increased level of greenhouse gases used in producing paper/cardboard/glass is greater, but this never gets mentioned either. Too much plastic gets in the ocean, of this there is no doubt, but this doesn’t mean that plastic is bad. It means humans are bad, or rather, lazy.

Paper, cardboard and glass are less polluting....paper and cardboard rot easily and as made from wood presumably put nutrients back into the soil. Plastic getting into the food chain and not bio-degrading is far more worrying. It just shows that things aren't simple. Using less plastic (and other packaging materials) and finding a better way to dispose of what is used is the problem to be solved.

I read on (I'm sure) the BBC website that around 90% of the plastic in the oceans originates in ten rivers.

Gatwick has now reopened. The above article lists the type of anti-drone devices available....including one that blocks signals to the drone. There may be reasons why some devices may not be suitable for use at Gatwick....but my guess is that we are just a bit slow in making that final decision...believing that doing nothing is better than choosing the wrong device. The last few days may speed up decision making. The final cost of recent events must be huge....even discounting the effect on passengers.

However, although blame will be thrown around at the authorities, let's not forget the real morons who started this...find them and thrown the book at them...preferably dropped from a great height from a drone. They should also ban them from flying....travelling by plane isn't a human right...a lifetime of only going on holiday by land and sea would smack of righteous justice.

Correct Fran, however the media attack plastic as “bad for our planet” whilst completely ignoring the fact that the other materials are bad for our planet in other ways, ie, production.

I travel back that day, so will let you know if I’m back in time (I will be because I’ll tell the wife we need to be back to pick the animals up about an hour before the game... then she can drop me at the pub!)

    Happy Christmas

My 5ft 2in mate, at work, got down from the “bulker machine” he drives and I said to him
“Why have you got down from the bulker”?
He replied “ To stretch my legs”.
I said “It hasn’t worked. You’re still short.”

not sure where to post this - it's too ridiculous to post on the politics thread! (but the government has a solution to the drone issue!)

It was the last working day before our Christmas shutdown, and our department director popped his head around the door at 13:30 today to say Merry Chrimbo, and to let us know that the official line was that we work our full shifts. He also said that it would be ok if we started to "drift off" home after 14:00...
Fastest ****ing drift I've ever seen, the office was cleared by 14:01 <laugh>

If the act of drifting ever made a noise, then that noise is whoooooosh,

Fifty years ago today, Apollo 8 launched for the first flight around the moon. I was tiny and when I saw this photo I was always puzzled that the rocket was pointing in the wrong direction.

Only six of the twelve men who walked on the Moon are still alive.

The ONLY thing I agree with Trump is that we should go again. The knowledge to be learned with 2018 technology and a manned moon mission is incredible.
