MrRAWhite The question of who is the real villain was more of a rhetorical one. They are both problematic states and pose their own threats but I was just trying to highlight how we always hear about how Iran is in constant violation of international law with regards to its nuclear program yeet seems to be inifinitely more cooperative than the state of Israel, so where does that leave Israel? Is the international community going to start pushing for harsh sanctions against Israel? Whats sauce for the goose and all that
I'm not disagreeing with the statements being 'fact' or not. However I do disagree with how you present them in such an unbalanced manner. It comes across as if you have an agenda rather than playing devils advocate and giving a different viewpoint.
Ah, reduced to the inevitable conspiracy nut arguements. A sure sign of pig headed people unable to admit when they have been misinformed. Gadaffi you still havent responded to my points
I would say that Iran is "worse" because it is a tinpot dictatorship guided by fundamentalist racists. Any country which is led by a religious group gives up any right to be considered relevant.
Ok then so Israel was founded on the basis of religious scripture. Religion forms the basis of every decision of America it would seem also with their constant "God is on our side" and " in God we trust" justification for actions and decisions. Surely they cant be relevant either.
This depends from which angle you are looking from. There are many countries, particularly in the Middle-Eastern area, who most certainly regard Israel as the villian, and in some cases deny to acknowledge that they actually exist as a state. If you are talking about the Western nations, I agree that more pressure should have been on Israel, particularly to stop the setting up of new communities in the occupied territories. However, the fact that Israel was actually re-created by Western nations, and that they are a reliable 'friend' to the West in an otherwise volotile area of the globe, does probably mean you are right if you are saying that they are offered special privilages and given more leeway, particularly by the USA.
But Rabbis don't have a direct role in running Israel do they? They don't dictate to the populace what the laws are and what they are allowed to say and what they are'nt, they don't force people to be stoned to death because it says so in the Torah. The President of Iran is a figurehead, the Clerics run the country under Sharia law (or their twisted version of it).
Here's what Amnesty International say so you decide who's worse? Iran Human Rights Iran's latest presidential election on June 12, 2009, took place against a backdrop of discrimination, worsening repression of dissent and violent unrest. Amnesty International continues to document serious human rights violations including detention of human rights defenders and other prisoners of conscience, unfair trials, torture and mistreatment in detention, deaths in custody and the application of the death penalty. Iran has one of the highest number of recorded executions of any country in the world. Israel/Occupied Palestinian Territories Human Rights Concerns Amnesty International's concerns are based on international standards and applied equally within the proper legal framework. The legal framework is defined by who retains jurisdiction, or effective control, over an area and the circumstances or situation at the time of the human rights violation. Amnesty's concerns within Israel-proper, the area inside the 1949 (W. Bank/E. Jerusalem) and 1951 (Gaza Strip) armistice lines (also called the '1967 borders') include but are not limited to, ill-treatment and torture of detainees, excessive use of force, the detention of conscientious objectors, and forced evictions and home demolitions within 'unrecognized' Bedouin villages. The Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory (the West Bank including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip) is in its fifth decade and the undercurrent of violence and inherent abuses of fundamental human rights and disregard for international law inherent in any long-standing military occupation is presented by both sides. Both Israeli and Palestinian civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence in the region.
Well this got side tracked didnt it. Inevitable I suppose it was going to turn into a competition of who could produce the worst human rights record but that wasnt my aim with this thread. My aim was simply to highlight the inconsistenies in the way the western world views and treats each country's nuclear agenda. Medro, I havent bamed anything here on anyone, I was simply making comparisons so your statement make no sense. Your silence on this thread has been deafening however. Could it be you found yourself unable to counter any points in the OP or unable to find a way to justify Israel's stance in any of the points made???
From what I have read, all your points have been addressed on this thread by a number of posters. So the only conclusion as to why you have named a poster who hasn't contributed, is that your arguments havn't really stood up to scrutiny.
