I bought my missus a title we even had her driving license and passport changed to show she is a Lady. Well worth the 20 quid.
My kids bought me a bottle of Laphroaig for my birthday, and with it came title to a square foot of land on Islay. I suppose that makes me a laird, albeit a very minor one!
It's like buying someone a star...sweet idea, but means nothing. I presume the land is useless...I can just picture someone trying to build on it and attempting to find all the owners.
My mad uncle lives in NYC (and has done for ages). He changed his name to include Lord on his credit cards, passport etc. Always gets upgraded on flights and treated hilariously in the States as a result. I think it’s rather brilliant.
The land is useless it cost's 20 quid for gods sake, however my missus being able to have the word Lady in front of her name on her driving license and passport is well worth the money and makes a good conversation subject.
For all the golfers out there, new rules come into effect from tomorrow :- No penalty for accidentally moving your ball/marker on the green or the ball when searching for it, you just replace it and carry on. You can now repair spike marks on the green. You can remove lose impediments from bunkers. Drop a ball back into play from knee height and not shoulder height. Three minutes to find a lost ball, instead of five. Putt with the flagstick in. When out of bounds, no returning to the tee. Drop the ball anywhere between where the ball has ended up, or believed to have ended up if you cannot find it, and the tee, and take a two stroke penalty. I think many amateur golfers may already play that last one, to be fair.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/46727911 Andy Murray wins in Melbourne, but admits he doesn't know how long he can carry on playing top class tennis. A great shame that his hip injury has limited his career just after he made it to number one...though nice that he made it at all. He's a really great guy and many youngsters have thanked him for his advice and encouragement....I expect that helping the next generation forward is his next move.
I was really into darts once...even got a couple of trophies somewhere...but no longer watch it. Strange how things move on...oh. not so strange...just remembered my baby...holding one hinders your darts arm.
