he's already given levy his get out of jail free card on the spending. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...tottenham-rules-out-january-signings-no-money Now he might be saying that so any targets you have won't have their prices driven up but i'm going to take this as it is given
I hate the fact Emery seems a decent guy. I wanna hate him but it’s kind of hard to do so. He ain’t a slimy prick like Wenger.
Reading that, it seems Poch was joking about. He may well have been telling the truth and maybe there is no dough but a couple years back, can’t remember exactly who it was, may have been Ossie Ardiles but don’t quote me on it, said Poch enjoys ****ing with the media a hell of a lot, so your point of him saying so in order to not drive up prices could be plausible - we’ll find out either way in Jan I suppose.
I don`t think Spurs should say anything, it`s a complete non story and we should treat it as so, why even waste the energy rising to it, just let the biased media feeding frenzy play itself out while we quietly get on with our jobs. As far as I can see, this media tapping up of Poch to United was started by desperate former Manure players like Neville and Keane etc, and consequently every former Man Utd mug they can find has added their tuppence worth to the fairy tale, along with several former Mousers who are desperate to see one of their rivals weakened.
Pochettino : damned if he says owt, damned if he don't. "As far as I can see, this media tapping up of Poch to United was started by desperate former Manure players like Neville and Keane etc, and consequently every former Man Utd mug they can find has added their tuppence worth to the fairy tale, along with several former Mousers who are desperate to see one of their rivals weakened." Their fear is evident. God forbid that ENIC have actually funded new WHL without messing up squad transfer/wage activity, like the Library was confirmed to have done to Wenger.
Harry Redknapp has apparently said that United will get Poch. Every pundit on Talkshite is convinced he's going to go, too, but that is only to be expected, I suppose. I really do hope that we keep him. For me, to lose him now would be a killing blow. I really cannot think of anyone (other than Pep) whom I would want in charge at our club - that is how high the bloke has set the bar in every possible way for us. Training, fitness, diet, youth, team spirit, togetherness, balance, charm, the way he conducts himself - absolutely everything about the man is pure class. It would be absolutely gutting to see him go to United. I know that most of you lads are convinced he won't go, but if United want him they will offer him treble anything that Levy can afford to pay him. They will also offer him everything that he wants to get the job done. I don't care who you are or how loyal you've been or want to be to Spurs, it would take a saint not to be tempted by that.
No panic, here, Rocky, old pal. In my job, I look at things analytically and coldly. That is what I have done, here. The fan in me says, "He won't go. He loves the Project. He has a special relationship with Levy, etc, etc..." However, if United really do want him and are prepared to pay literally what ever it takes to get him, I don't see how we could keep him. If he stays, of course, I'll love him even more than I do. That kind of loyalty is very rare - the kind that you see once in every generation, at most. We've seen it in Kane; can we really be so lucky as to have it also in Poch? I really hope so, but the odds are against it.
Poch has already turned down Real Madrid and all that they can offer, so why would he not do the same to Manure? Poch seems to be a man of principle, he does not come across as being motivated by money and he is already extremely well paid at Spurs, he would be a fool to go and join that shower.
And BBC / SKY rumour-mongers........ Radio4Today match report this morning spent more time on Poch on pitch at end applauding fans as ‘they fear his imminent departure’ than the bottle throwing incident. The media has the power to report reasonably and proportionately - they (and their masters) decide to act otherwise
THIS. THIS. THIS!!! It's a hot mess of a mockery, of a sham. Every single opportunity they get they talk up the idea of dismantling Spurs. Kane to Real. Alli to Real. Poch to Real. Now, Poch to Man U??!?!? Was there any such tapping up on our behalf when we acquired Pochettino from Southampton? (Or any of our managers for that matter?) NO. None at all. We just quietly went about our business when Poch showed signs of wanting out. Man U are like the whiny brat who must alway get what he wants. Like a spoilt child he sits in petulance crying at the thought of losing. It is embarrassing how almost the entire football media seems to be enabling the nonsense, with only Real Madrid and Barcelona as the only fatter more self entitled greedy children. Is this impartial media? We're only a couple of days in and how many articles have we already seen that mention Poch to United? Look at them, fawning. All shamelessly bowing at the alter of their so called 'elite'. It's pathetic. All of them doing the bidding of advertising Man U as the 'holy grail', to Pochettino and all of us. They were happy for Leicester to win the league, as long as it was a temporary blip, and their their key players could become available for the 'elite' to pick off. The thought of us actually winning anything and staying in the upper echelons of the game scares the crap out of them for some reason, it's as if the football Gods would be upset. Truth is, they are not the 'holy grail' anymore. The club has become unstable. They are now bordering on desparate. We were there in recent past. Switching managers, hoping one sticks. Being inconsistent the laughing stock of the league. Having failure expected of us. They are jealous to the extreme. It burns them that we lost key players and still challenge on many fronts. They can't stand us finally having the stability that they have benefit from for years, and are in denial about us actually acheiving it soon because it feeds their idea that they are still the top dogs. I don't buy it. (Levy should put a cheeky bid in for Fred, Rashford, and Martial just for laughs.) It took Sir Alex 6 seasons of managing Man U before he won the league. All of a sudden nobody has patience, and we are labelled 'bottlers' who never win?!? Nonsense. I see him turning down Man U for exactly the same reasons why he turned down Real. Real is the only team I've heard him hint at possibly managing in the future. Even they got a fat no. Plus, loyalty to the project is what he expects from his players. When Dier wanted to go to United, what happened? Pochettino on principle is never going to upset the stability of his contract and the asthetic of his loyalty to force a move to Man U or any other club. Even if he wanted to go. It would have to be by mutual concent with Levy and Levy is not letting Pochettino go for love nor money. Right now, why would he? WHAT?!? What you have done here is unwittingly look at thing through the media Man U nipple sucking media lense that has been forced upon us all. Levy will look at this analytically and coldly!!! He is under contract!!! Cold fact. That's how we keep him. That's what Pochettino says about players he wants to keep, and thats what Levy will say to anyone interested in taking assets from Tottenham. The 'special relationship' is very much a business one. They see eye to eye on business matters. They are not just pals. Do you not think that working with Pochettino has helped foster this loyalty that you see in Kane, Alli etc. ? (Even Rose is begining to believe.) Without Pochettino, a lot of players would want out. Think about this, if Levy got rid of Pochettino, how much money would he have to find to replace not only the manager, but all of the talent that would potentially follow him out? Levy would just increase Pochettino's pay with a new contract and tell Man U to kindly F off. They said the same thing with Real Madrid. Let me guess some sentences that were used , "If he wants to win things...", "When Man U come knocking...", " We've taken their place in the top 4 and they can't stand it. Harry Redknapp should know bettter than to be complicit in the nonsense. Pochettino was a saint when we hired him, and he is the closest we are going to get to a saint in this day and age. Plus, Levy is the guy who Man U have to worry about, and right now there is no sturdier chairman. He knows that it would be absolutely unthinkable, and unforgivable to comply with lettting Pochettino go at this point, to the fans especially. (I for one would be done with Spurs, and football in general, if he did.) I see Levy standing firm. (Unless, of course, Levy and Pochettino have an agreement in the contract that allows for some hidden desire to move to Man U, making him a secret nipple sucker too.) The stadium will be completed. A sponor will be found. More new contracts for players and maybe manager. New signings will come in. Onwards and upwards.
Gonna have to get used to it...going to be a long 6 months. Makes a bit of sense what I'm saying about Poch saying something...piss on everyone's chips..you get me? Can't see it happening though...hopefully it dies down. Instead for me at least it will be an uncertain 6 months I'm not as sure as everyone else seems on him staying. I'm aware of all the words that have been spoken about loyalty and Poch's personality etc but still.... Anyway let's see...January might reveal a bit more
If he leaves it won't be with my blessings and Levy is in deep doo doo...people will have to scrap the 'he has Tottenham's best interests at heart' Make or break for Levy...lets see what he really thinks of Spurs. If it's Poch's choice then hopefully Levy throws him under the bus so that I know where to aim my vitriol
I understand and totally empathize with your concerns although I think you may do DL a disservice - and UNTIL proven otherwise I’m prepared and willing to believe..... 1. That DL has the clubs future and best interests at heart 2. Poch will want to see the project through and if he doesn’t.... 3. DL will strip ManUre financially bare if a Poch departure ever becomes an inevitability. However, I am starting to agree with you that a combined Poch/DL statement would be helpful and at least provide a ‘go and feckin’ read this!’ line for the club to use every time the media raise the subject.
I'll be honest...getting 40 million for Poch is peanuts...not stripping United bare. Poch will revolutionise them...40 mill will get us nothing in return. We are left with another building job. If Poch doesn't see the project through then he is a liar and a conniving twat considering he's been playing the loyalty card with the players for the last 3 years when their departure used to be mooted to 'bigger' clubs This episode will expose everyone's true nature...can't wait.
