Morning all. Nice and bright here at the moment, so outside tasks to get on with. Very good afternoon yesterday scoffing mince pies, cheese straws and shortbread, washed down with mulled wine. I am beginning to feel in festive mode, but the forecast suggests that it will be mild and damp around Christmas Day. I am sure that when I was very small we always had snow at Christmas, but maybe I just remember the Christmas cards. :emoticon-0100-smile

Morning all. Wet and windy here, but very mild. The preparations for the influx of family continue, but I am not sure that we will be ready for them all by the weekend. They are all using the Channel Tunnel to come over here, so bad weather should not be a problem. Speaking to the 17 who came to our monthly dinner last Sunday, none of them will be going the other way. I hope that the country is well prepared to feed and water us all. :emoticon-0100-smile

It is less commercial and more family / religious oriantated.
24th in the evening go to the in-laws place, my wife has 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Some of them have kids that have kids. There will be about 40-50 people crammed in. 24th at midnight a model baby jesus is rocked and songs are sung as he is lowered onto a navitity scene. There is, due to financial and less commercial reasons, a secret santa within the whole family, max 150 pesos for a gift, say 6 pounds. So that "intercambio" takes a while!! Then there is a massive vat of tamales so everyone can eat, drinks to be merry, etc, it usually goes on until the early hours. The 25th in the day is the "recalentado," so same food again, doss about and a clean up. 26th everyone is back to work! I like the empahsis on the less commercial aspect of Christmas, here it is time with the fam and a slice of religion on top!!

Lots of similarities with here. Big dinner starts at 9.00 pm on the 24th and goes on through the night. Certainly a family time, not so commercial as the UK. Despite being a secular state there is also the religious aspect. 25th sees a new menu, plus any leftovers from the night, and back to work on the 26th. There are a few things I would import from the UK, such as the music sung properly, and certainly not the American canned Christmas songs that you hear in the supermarkets. There is only a week to New Year which is an opportunity to start the feasting all over again.

Morning all, dry and mild at present, but sunshine and showers forecast for later. As the house is likely to be fairly full, I decided to put a Christmas tree in the garden. Lights, baubles and tinsel, it looked really rather good, but then we started to get gusts of strong wind, and it has gone sideways. I straightened it up and put some stays in, but notice this morning that it has gone over to one side again. Looks as though I will have to take everything off it, and find a better way of fixing it. Meanwhile the list of tasks supplied by Mme gets longer, and she is talking about a shopping trip as an added bonus. <yikes>
