Bristol City midfielder leaves the Robins by 'mutual consent' as room made for new signings German utility player moves on to concentrate on his business. Bristol City have announced that midfielder Jens Hegeler has left the club by mutual consent. The former Hertha Berlin man had joined up at Ashton Gate in January 2017 and leaves after almost two years in the city. In total the 30-year-old made 16 appearances in the league after signing on an undisclosed fee. Hegeler found the net for the first time in the City short when he scored in the 5-0 drubbing of Plymouth Argyle in the first round of last season's Carabao Cup. The move will come as little surprise to Bristol City fans who have not seen the German play this season although the former Germany U21 player was featured in a pre-season video on social media where the head coach spoke to Hegeler about the coaching side of the game. Speaking to the club's official website , Johnson said: Head Coach Lee Johnson said: “Jens has been a fantastic personality about the place from day one and he is a highly intelligent footballer and human being. "I believe he is going to take some time out from playing to concentrate on his football analytics business Impect and we wish him well in that venture. "Jens will always be welcome at Bristol City, whether at matches or just to pop in and see us at the training ground.” By freeing up a squad space and wages, the Robins will now look to recruit in the January window with head coach Lee Johnson wishing to add some 'sparkle' to his side. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...bristol-city-midfielder-leaves-robins-2346710
I had high hopes for him when he joined - great profile at that point - but injuries amongst other things meant it didn't work out. I wish him all the best.
Hegeler gone, nice guy but won't really be missed, all the best to him, I wonder if we will get any more players leaving and who but it does create space for some new additions, interesting, money to spend or money saved ?
May be wrong but I think only wages & signing on fee. Seemed a good deal at the time for a highly rated player with Champions League experience, but maybe Hertha Berlin knew something we didn’t.
According to this site he cost 300k euro's but who knows. https://www.transfermarkt.com/jens-hegeler/transfers/spieler/51168/transfer_id/1662470
Wasted talent. He clearly had something here, and if injuries aren't solely to blame then I'd say that this is a 'legitimate' LJ flop.
I monitored this site for ages and the fee's they quote are tending to be a bit undervalued as to what was"officially paid" for certain players that did move ..inflated prices syndrome! so it is likely we paid close to that, probably a tad more .... 500k euro? / £ 300 -350k?
