Cheers Theo. A football one. Which one time Hornet became manager of a European Club for a total of 24 years, and, concurrently, for one year a national team manager as well ?
Very close and the same era NZ. This one was manager of a now famous European club for a total of 24 years - much longer than Pagnum.
Even now he is well regarded at the European club where he was a manager - as one of the originators of 'Total Football'. He was manager of them for a total of 24 years in 3 spells of management - which were interrupted by war. Also national team manager for a year, at the same time. Also had managerial spells at 2 other clubs from the same city, which either no longer exist, or are now amateurs. Rather surprisingly the club has had 7 English managers during its long history, though only one ex Hornet.
Total football gave it away, so I looked on the Ajax Wikipedia page - it was Jack Reynolds, who played for us in one season, 1907-08. He was manager there 1915–1925, 1928–1940, and 1945–1947.
All yours Barry. He was also manager of the Netherlands national team in 1919. The first spell at Ajax was made possible through the country being neutral in World War 1. Take it away.
Brett Pitman of Portsmouth is 8 league goals from being a record-holder - what is that record and who is the current holder?
The most league goals scored by a player from the Channel Islands ? Currently held by Matt le Tissier.
Got it in one - Pitman currently holds the record for the most by someone from Jersey, ahead of Peter Vincenti, who is at Macclesfield, and Graeme Le Saux.
Cheers Barry. Another football one. Which current football league club has played at more different home stadiums/venues than any other ?
Sorry Bodbo, none of the Wanderers. This club has actually been at their present ground since the 60s, but has played at nearly 20 locations since being a professional club, including some unlikely ones and one very well known one.
All yours Dave. QPR were well known nomads in their earlier years and had played at 18 different home stadiums before settling briefly at the White City and then finally at the 'Load of Rust' stadium. These included playing at Wormwood Scrubs and at the Royal Horticultural Society ! Over to you !
Thanks Cologne. As a young man, a now well known author ,enjoyed country walks along the banks of a river. When he started writing.,the walks he enjoyed influenced his chosen pen name. Who might this be?
