Good Morning Everyone Talks between Leeds and Newcastle are progressing regarding Toon shot stopper Karl Darlow. It now seems likely that Leeds will sign the 28 yo on a permanent contract - not a loan. Newcastle were willing to sell Darlow during the summer window and he “almost joined Middlesbrough” until the Premier League club “decided they wanted more money” and increased the price tag to £5million! Should Leeds fork out 5m for a keeper, especially one who is second choice in a struggling Premiership team? Another report suggests that Leeds are keeper an eye on Saints Ex England No1 Frazer Forster. The 6 ft 7' giant is 30 yo and has plenty of first team, and England experience behind him. Who would you prefer? If Leeds splash out 5m on Darlow, surely it will mean that he'll be first choice? Otherwise, what is the point of having a 5m player on the bench? If Leeds have 5m to burn, would you rather see Bielsa strengthen another part of our squad, and bring in a keeper like Forster on loan to replace Blackman! Leeds and Fulham have been linked with Italian prospect Francesco Paolo Clemente. The 16-year-old striker currently plays for Foggia.
good morning all i'm off today due to finishing late yesterday evening so not being able to start early.the sooner this xmas rush is over the better i will like it. If we sign a permanent goalie then he has to be number one or what's the point ?.Surely we have money to spend as the matches are selling out fast every time.plus the fact ten game season tickets are on offer .surely this is to generate cash for a signing in January to strengthen where needed.or what would be the point when the club could make more selling tickets game by game. So if we buy a decent goalie then i fear we wont be seeing a top notch mid come in.but if we loan a goalie from the prem which i feel is the minimum standard required then a touch of class or even experience for midfield is my wish.
Morning all On the keeper front my preference all day every day is Frazer Forster a proper No1 and still good enough for Prem football. Darlow as I mentioned yesterday is now No3 at Newcastle behind the keeper we originally tried to buy Woodman. The Newcastle No1 is a top keeper and was featured on footy focus last week. Forster is available because the new manager has changed things. The Italian kid is another one of Orta's for the Academy if it comes off and would be similar to the one Forza mentioned yesterday with the 17yo Polish wonderkid. These academy purchases are on top of last seasons kids like Aapo Halme, Strujic, Rey, Edmondson, Dalby, Haughland etc. This also means that we will see a cull of present U23 talent like last season when we let Billy Whitehouse and a few more go. I see the likes of Malik Wilks, Lewie Coyle , Tyler Denton and more being let go... Someone mentioned yesterday how difficult it can be to let loan players go if the dont work out. I stated it could be difficult unless the player, his club and our club come to an agreement, or it would need to be mentioned in the actual contract. Heard Phil Hay yesterday say that we may look to offload baker and harrison as both haven't worked out. baker has started twice and he has had the last 2 matches to stamp himself on the game but each time subbed off at half time. Harrison has had 8 chances but his form is in and out. Harrison has had 2 good U23 games this last week and may have won himself a start on Sunday. It would be good to let these players go as they take a wage and don't add value. I hope Harrison can make a name for himself but time is short now. Anyone heard of this rumor. I haven't put it in the sticky because it makes no sense to me but I have now seen the same story 2 days on the trot in different outlets. Leeds and Swansea chasing a 23yo Ayr United striker who has scored 27 goals in 23 games so far this season. Lawrence Shankland?
Morning all. For anyone unsure of whether a 'keeper costing £5m will be #1 or #2 in the pecking order, it's worth remembering what Bielsa said about signings in January. He said that he will only sign a player who is an improvement on the current squad. So I guess the new guy has to be #1 then?
Morning all, £5m on a keeper may seem like a lot of money to spend but it's worth remembering that this wouldn't be paid upfront but instead over three or four years, so an initial outlay of maybe £1.25m. Not much at all really, and should leave enough to strengthen other areas, maybe Gomez as a replacement for Saiz or as cover for Hernandez.
We are top of the league, so we need to address the few obvious areas of weakness, If we need to spend big (ish) on just one or two players we definitely should. Could be difference between success and falling away.
Morning all, I’d prefer Foster myself as I believe he would still hold down a place in the PL should we get promoted but if I’d been picking the team over Bielsa we’d more than likely be bottom half so what do I know. I’m opposite in thought regarding the funding and links with a £5m keeper on a permanent contract. Scenario 1... Bielsa asks how much we’ve got, he is told £5m so he tells Orta I want a Keeper on Loan and a creative midfield player Scenario 2... Bielsa asks how much and is told £10m? He says I want a Keeper and Creative midfielder. I just don’t believe Bielsa would blow £5m on a keeper if he knew that was the budget spent, as we’re looking at home based Keepers the leaks are harder to plug so hopefully it’s made the news ahead of a Saiz replacement. Like Forza said, payments might be staged, we might have had £5m to spend anyway and if we are getting £6m eventually for Saiz we can arrange payments to coincide with that.
No he just has to be better than Huffer and miazek to be an improvement on the squad We’re not spending millions on a keeper... or anyone. We’re potless unless radz flogs some more shares to the 49ers. We have some wages freed up... so expect loan deals for keeper and probably winger/10.
Me personally, I’d be very happy if we signed two good players, a keeper and creative spark, if possible I’d like to see two good backup loan players, one to replace Blackman and the other Baker I’m okay with Harrison as cover.
Getafe will be paying in euros, so if if there's a no deal Brexit and the scaremongerers are to be believed, that 6m€ could be worth upwards of £12m! Oh sorry, wrong thread
Just heard this in its entirity for the first time today. Crackin' vid too. WJ's little Xmas pressie to those that haven't enjoyed this yet. Enjoy ....
Good Morning to Matt and WJ AND FRIENDS from a slightly sunny Bardsey I don't like Darlow but would welcome Westwood or Foster We need someone to replace Alioski and a player that cover as a CB and RB LOOKS like grealish will not be playing on Sunday but Villa will be up for this I hope Halme plays to mark Tammy Doc I mentioned Shankland about 2 weeks ago could he be another Jim Storrie or another Hughie Baird he knows where the net is and would not cost a lot
To be honest, doesn’t it seem long ago since Bates bled us dry, GFH nearly bust us and Cellino made us a laughing stock, it’s nice being a properly run club again
Seems Ayr United are only willing to let him go in January on the understanding that he’s immediately loaned back to them for the remainder of the season
I know that they're chasing promotion & top by 1 point, with a game in hand, but money talks, particularly in the Scottish Championship. I believe the transfer fee they're talking about is in the region of £400k. According to Transfermarkt, they're only worth €525k!
