I had forgotten that, but that was a terrific gold. Never liked netball much (to play) but the last couple of games were so exciting. That's what I like about the Olympics and Commonwealth tournaments....you enjoy sports you'd never notice the rest of the year. Also won the award for sporting moment.
Well from that list I would've had the Ryder Cup team personally. That is probably more to do with the fact that I know nothing about any of the other sports except the football team.
As there was a lack of female awards in other áreas it was expedient to give the netball team the award. Not to say they did not deserve the recognition. However you can bet your life if England´s rugby unión team had done what Ireland´s team did, then the "netters" would not have got this prize.
Their victory against the Aussies was the most dramatic sporting moment of the year. Watched it and it was incredible
I hope it had nothing to do with your first sentence. I thought it correct they got “Sporting Moment” but felt That the Irish egg chasers should have won. Bit embarrassing Gareth win coach of the year. I love him, but shouldn’t have got that.
Coach of the Year: Who was the Ryder Cup Captain who organised the USA´s demolition? He devised the pairings brilliantly as well as preparing the team´s psychology. But as I have alluded to with the netball, maybe it was another expedient award in a high profile sport.
Thomas Bjørn, who is Danish, so that doesn’t fit with the UK thing. The Ireland rugby team would have, because of course rugby is the only sport that unites the whole of the island.
Don't find it surprising....football is our biggest sport....and he has produced an upturn at youth and senior level. Rugby also immensely popular and a Wales, Scotland or England coach might have won if they achieved what the Irish did, but Ireland (even by including NI) are basically cousins not siblings. He will have got votes, but hard to overcome one of your own. Always opinion....there isn't one right answer.
Saw in one of the papers yesterday , Cook to be knighted in the New Years honours list . First Cricketer since Sir Ian Botham to get the award . Thouroughly deserved IMHO .
Not until he retires . I agree though . if they are handing them out , Jimmy is definitely deserving .
I don’t get knighthoods being given out to a sportsperson, no matter how good they are. Those awards should be given out for people who have done something for someone else. I also dislike how they are given out to buddies and peers.
