I have been a fan of this guy for a long time. Quality right back and certainly an improvement on Yedlin. Will cost a real fee so no chance with Ashley still here.

He is at left back or left wing back. Not his position at all. I don't think he'll sign permanent for Rafa for fear of being used there too often. Kenedy needs to go somewhere with an attacking manager who will allow him some freedom. Rafa might open up 2nd half of the season though and revert back to a four.

He looked great last year when playing wide left regular and he was chasing back too. The touch thing is certainly right this season but I honestly think its just his confidence has gone. I think when you are pushed into playing an unnatural position that can happen as you feel vulnerable. I think he is one of those you need to put an arm round, and give him a bit of freedom. Dummett helps with that. I remember Bez saying with Ginola, what he needed was for you to tell him, look you don't need to track back provided what you produce at the other results in goals. Just having that freedom mentally meant he wet and did his business to the best. Kenedy is no Ginola but he is very talented and to a man Newcastle supporters were saying it last year. We just need to extract out of him and now Rafa has Dummett back maybe he can release him again. If he had a naturally attacking left back it would never have been an issue.

Not his natural position, I'd much rather have him in the midfield in place of Atsu.

I mean we played 3-5-2 more or less vs Huddersfield which was leaving the fullbacks completely exposed with Atsu coming across to "cover" - strange choice but it worked so I can't really argue with it.

Get Kenedy in the 3-4-3/5-4-1 formation as a winger and he's the best winger we have by a mile in terms of technique and work rate.

    I agree with leez.

Saying he is out of position - well what about the first quarter of the season? He has been a shadow of the player he was.

I said players. Giving up on Haidara is like giving up on a hard on after a skinful and an 8 ball - inevitable.

I wish Rafa had the same amount of attacking knowledge as defensive knowledge. Listening to him talk about defending is an education for any manager. Its the fine details with correct distances etc and drilling it so players have a framework for every game that hopefully makes life easy. I'm glad he has come out in defence of the young lad, maybe fans need to be a bit more positive and give the lad support rather than jumping on his back. He is finding these new defensive duties difficult but he is trying his best.

Agreed, I give him a lot of stick but defensively we are sound, as proved by the cover all the way across the back 4/5 and he's even turning Manquillo into a footballer.

Attacking wise its not what I grew up seeing and doesn't excite me like - even compared to under Pardew when we had players like Ba, Cisse, HBA and Cabaye pulling the strings behind them - but to be fair to him when you are working on the budget he has maybe myself and others expect to much.

I was with you up until that point.

Pardew was operating on a similarly restrictive budget remember.

<laugh> I was going to say "improving Manquillo as a footballer" but I thought that was a bit much so tried to make it more reasonable...

Apparently Muto has been called up as well as Ki, more importantly, for the Asia Games this January 5th - February 2nd. Couple this with the fact Shelvey is out injured and only just been to see a specialist in Spain this week we could be looking at a CM partnership of Diame and Hayden over January with Longstaff as the only option off the bench.

Certainly need to start looking at acquiring a CM on a short term basis, at least, this winter for me BUT think it may come at the cost of one of the other signings we so desperately need i.e. LB, Winger or AM.

Loftus-Cheek would be a shout but is he disciplined enough to play the holding role in midfield? As a defensive midfielder I'm not sure of many out there that immediately spring to mind who I'd want to bring in short or long term tbh.

Is Danny Drinkwater getting any game time at Chelsea, he'd do well in a Rafa team?

We can forget about Loftus-Cheek or Drinkwater lads, we’ve used up our domestic loans and both those players would need bids of 15m+......there’s as much chance of that happening as Perez not falling over in a light breeze<laugh>

I reckon this year we should just move the clocks forward to 1am on Feb 1st and tell Rafa to just get on with it.

He wastes too much time in the first part of the window giving interviews saying we have a list of targets we are after and then moaning about our lack of activity towards the end.
