Colin has been asked to "explain" his post match trainee ref comments to the FA https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46599055
I thought the ref was ok apart from missing the offside, blame the lino. He did let the game flow and allowed plenty of shoulder barging which others may have pulled up. Warnock would have gone mad if the offside goal had been against his team. I know he is the panto villain but I actually like him.
I wouldn't say I like him but I certainly have a grudging respect for him. His record of getting teams up is phenomenal.
I agree I thought he was very much in the background which is good in my view and took a laissez faire view of the fair contact, including TD's unfortunate slide into their goalie.
My wife is getting used to my comments of refs, and was quite surprised when I said during the game that he was doing fine.
It was quite funny, a couple of the shoulder barges knocked players sprawling, he was determined to keep the game flowing, which he did well.
I found his approach refreshing. Seemed like he referees in the National league, and wasn't fussed by having delicate prima donnas around him - not that carduff have very many!
He did let the game flow and overall I think he had a good match. However there were a couple of blatant professional fouls that should have been yellow cards as well as Deeney's slide (possibly) and I think this showed the Championship level that he has mainly been refereeing at.
I think this is right. Colin was just being Colin in that interview. His post match opinions on referees tends to be influenced by the result of the game. In the game before you we beat Southampton at home 1-0 and the ref was atrocious the first half, we all felt that and to be fair, Colin would have been right to slate him at half time. Out we came for the second half and there were a couple of penalty decisions that could (should?) have gone Southampton's way but he didn't give them. Then to cap it all, he rightly played advantage to us after one of our guys was serioulsy taken out by a Southampton player in the centre circle because the ball broke to Paterson who then slotted it home. Colin said that referee Moss was brilliant at the end of the game - a big difference to what he'd have said half time. That's just Colin - no big deal but many of us think he should wind his neck in about refs when we lose.
Even I thought he had a decent game, I don't recall spitting my dummy out once at the referee.... I think I did at the assistant once though....
