PM updates MPs on latest EU negotiations
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-parliaments-46592594

MPs will vote on the UK's Brexit deal in the week beginning 14 January, Theresa May has told Parliament.

The vote was due to be held last week but was put on hold after Theresa May admitted she was set to lose.

Announcing a new date, Mrs May said the EU had made it clear the Irish backstop was "not a plot to trap the UK" and urged MPs to see Brexit through.

Labour had threatened to force a confidence vote in the PM if she did not set a date for the vote.

While stopping short of seeking to oust Mrs May, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said she had "led the country into a national crisis" and she no longer had cabinet backing.

She could not set the date any later without breaking law.

She has once again dared opponent (this time corbyn) to pull trigger.

If he fails to call no confidence then he too looks an empty vessel

At the point this vote occurs all that can be done is accept the deal on offer or ask for extension.

    She'd lose by 100 or 200 votes.

There's no other options last week either so reality is she's hoping to panic the cliff of no deal will carry vote?

Corbyn actually tabled a no confidence motion in May but not the government.

A classic Cornyn half action. In effect this meaningless action is to be seen to take action but he doesn't want the risk of actuslly winning a real vote.

    Who knows.

It's like turkey voting for christmas... or traitors or something.

The only action that's logical right now is suspend brexit and call general election. If result is a hung parliament still then who knows after that.

If whatever many torys voted against her then that says a significant amount will vote no to this deal.

Every single opposition member plus the dup will vote no too. So......

no way is she going to win the vote as pulling it last week just antagonised people she may have swayed second time round with a few reassurances from EU.

    It’s quite clever actually.

As he’d have lost a vote of no confidence in the Govt. However, he’s tempting Tories to vote against their PM in a vote of no confidence against her. If she loses that vote he can probably rightly claim, that she’s lost her mandate to be PM, thus trying to shame her into a resignation that he could then try and push into a GE.

It opens the door for the likes of Mogg and his crew to have a second nibble at outing her.

may has said Cornyn is a silly boy and there's no time for his childish games so they are not giving his motion time. says he can raise it to a full no confidence in government to get his day in the sun.

so corbyn... we can't waste a month? that's what you said... what are you going to do?
