One of the most worrying headlines I've read in recent weeks. How ay manager in his right mind, could see any point to keeping Paynter after the past twelve months is beyond me. I'm afraid statements like that suggests Larry is either getting desperate after failures in the transfer area or he is losing the plot completely. And to think we were offered money for him and turned it down, however small, is equally extraordinary. Makes you think we've a long, long season ahead
He's so ****. He doesn't score, hold the ball up or even win any headers. Keogh doesn't score much but his link up play is quality and it allows others to play better. Paytner just doesn't do anything, he isn't a target man, a goal poacher, he's just a really, really poor player. Why did we sign him? You could see that season with Swindon was a one off, just by looking at his career stats, and 9 of his goals that season were penalties. Sometimes you wonder whether we actually scout some of the players we sign.
Maybe Grayson just snaps up those that are prepared to come here from his short list of has beens and rejects!! ..... If you can't sell Leeds as a club to play for over any other FLC club then the worlds gone mad...
With any luck Billy will pick up the form he had with Swindon in League One. He scored more than all our players except Beckford in his last season for Swindon and our last season in league one. It's strange why he can score 29 in league one but can only score 1 in the Championship when Beckford scored 25 in league 1 (31 in all competitions) and ended up scoring 10 for Everton 2 leagues up. I don't think it is that he ain't good enough maybe he ain't used to playing under the pressure at Leeds (he and Swindon overachieved reaching play offs when they were tipped for relegation).
This says to me that Paynter is delivering in training. Why he can't bring this form to matches I don't know, but I'm sure they'll work it out. You've got to remember that Grayson sees a lot more of the players than we do. If he still has a place in the squad for Paynter, then I trust in both of them to justify it.
KGIG, I'm with you mate. Paynter scored a shed load the season before last in L1 in a 2 man attack. Last season, he was injured, & when he did get a game, he was playing as a loan striker. This season, SG has seen the folly of 451 & appears to have reverted to 442. If/when Paynter comes back, I so hope he starts scoring asap. I also think he will. But with Becchio due back soon & McCormack/Keogh doing well up front, it maybe a while before BP gets a game. Fingers crossed for the lad.
You can't allow a player to have talks with another club then not agree on a fee and have a player in the dressing room who isn't wanted. A player other players now see as excess to requirements and a player himself who's moral must be at an all time low. We must remember he doesn't put on a Leeds shirt and think "I know lets piss everyone off today and play like a donkey". I think he is useless as a player but he is still a human being, why do we jeer and treat any under performing player poorly when they wear a leeds shirt? Answer is to get the message across to the manager that we think he is useless so why do you continue to play him... I feel sorry for the guy but agree, we should have accepted any amount no matter how small it was, we signed him on a free anyway...
