That’s a bad state of affairs mate. Some Gooners got to the stage where they were literally hoping we’d lose to speed up Wenger leaving. I couldn’t get into that mindset, I want us to win every game we play, but I could understand how they felt. That’s a symptom of a rotten core and you need to get shot of Mourinho because it’s become toxic and will only get worse.

If you remember him he was an incredible talent. One of the best, if not the best player I’ve ever seen. What he did to himself was sad in a way, but he lived his life the way he chose to.

So trying to sort out some care for my dad is proving to be a nightmare. He needs 24/7 care with everything, going to the toilet, getting in and out of bed, getting washed and dressed, needing all his food sorted out for him, medication, drinks etc and needs to be watched constantly day and night because he wanders off and is at risk off falling. So I’m doing it all at the moment. This is a bloke who has worked all his life, paid his taxes, raised his kids and put them through university and basically lived his life as a thoroughly decent man. Now he needs some help himself and there’s basically **** all available. This is the ****ty end of austerity with a thread bare social care system.
It is ****ty. Very ****ty mate. What can you do though? This is where i have sympathy for the government and where a communist society could help, where theres no riches and everyone works for everyone (2nd part is a pipe dream, no one is that nice). There is no way in hell the government can afford that for everyone and even if it could, there is no way in hell that someone will be paid enough/compassionate to: - Do this full time 24/7 - trusted to take care of your dad properly. Hell i'm sure you're doing your best but even you don't want to do it 24/7 - effectively need to employ 4 people to do this at a minimum (2 full time mon-fri with 12 hour shifts, 2 at the weekend) I have a lot of sympathy for you mate and for whoever has to go through this situation. It really is a no win for anyone
Sounds like you’re about to face a tough choice mate, as if your mum is no longer physically capable and everything is falling to you, as a married bloke with his own family and a business to run, whilst there’s no social care available for you Dads needs to be catered for at home. Then your only practical option is going to end up with residential care for him fella. Not a decision anyone wants to make tbh, but it sounds like you’ve run out of options.
I think this is where it’s all going to end up mate. They’ll have to pay for it too out of the value of their house, which seems cruel given that’s what they’ve worked all of their lives to pay for. But you’re right, I can’t do it all on my own and my old dear isn’t going to be able to care for him. Couldn’t have come at a worse time for me, this is my busiest period of the year and I’m losing £2-3k per week in lost earnings at this time of year. Ah well at least Arsenal won yesterday eh
Yeah I get it mate. There's no way the state can pick up the tab for everybody in this situation. The cost of 24/7 care is astronomical, the care homes I'm looking at are around £1000 per week. So £52k per year for god knows how many thousands of people who are in this situation and you can see how expensive it is. As an ageing population too it's only going to get worse, so I agree that free (state) provision should be reserved for those who literally cannot afford it It just feels a bit ****ty seeing your own parents, having worked all their lives to pay for their house, suddenly having to use its equity to pay for care in old age. At least we live in a country where there is provision though, plently of people around the world who don't get any support with this sort of stuff and have to shoulder the burden themselves.
