    Digital is ****!

I was in Koo's on the Tuesday just after the last game in the Championship against QPR. Was speaking to Danny Simpson, Leon Best, Fitz Hall, Alan Hutton and Fraizer Campbell, I was so pissed, I would have been annoying them. I was laughing at Hutton for joining Sunderland, he was actually quite canny. I told Leon Best to hang in there, once he gets a goal he will go on a roll...and he did. I take credit for Best!

I used to go in the Village Club and the Phoenix quite a bit, but it's a pretty **** night out in general. Blyth has its moments mind, you can certainly have a good night out there.

You mean Cramlington Learning Village as it is now known. I was there from year 9-13, loved it.

Aye I heard they'd changed the name. It was CCHS when I left four years ago though. I just did 6th form there, honestly some of the best days of my life!

I was always told the opposite when I was growing up: ie that you're not doing a real job unless you get your hands dirty.

People in office jobs are traditionally thought to be more intelligent, but I think in the last 40 years or so white collar jobs have become more automated with the advent of computers, requiring less intelligence and skill, whereas most manual jobs require at least a little bit of thought.

Some of the people I work with in the office are proper dipsticks, however much technology they're surrounded with.

skillsets are skillsets, my mate is a mechanic and is astounded at how i can fix his computer for him over the phone, likewise im astounded on how easily he fixes things with my car. personally i think if your working and contributing it doesnt matter what you do (unless you play for sunderland)

**** me, Tash has actually grown a vagina!!!

Get a job, any job, better to be working and still in the routine of going out and earning a living. I've done many **** jobs in my time, some manual some not (I delivered pianos for a while -cue PG tips monkey jokes) but have always worked and paid my way, I left home at 16 so had to work to buy stuff.

And I wouldn't get out of bed for £16K a year now <laugh> (joking)

I spent 10 years working as a chef when I left college and this was before minimum wage so £16k was over twice the annual salary I was taking home.

I started working at the bottom of the ladder earning less than £100 per week after tax for a 80/90 hour week on average.

To gain extra funds I'd also do underpinning for construction companies whenever I had a weekend off. Digging 7ft down through frozen clay on a Saturday morning at 6am in January wasn't a joy but it brought in enough money for me to start saving.

Within 5 years I was the 2nd chef at a Michelin star restaurant and guess what my salary was now I'd reached the higher echelons of the industry? Still less than £16k per annum.

I quit and retrained myself to be a computer programmer and I took a pay cut to get the requisite experience on my CV.

Now I'm doing very well but don't ever look down on manual labour or a pay cheque. It taught me a lot and I still use some of the precepts to this day when I manage developers.

I'm a civil engineer and my bro is a mason paver. he makes almost the same as me and is by no means thick. i don't judge people on what they do for a living. i judge them on whether i actually find them to be thicker than a drug dealers door when i actually speak to them in person.

Having a job is something I respect, I also respect those who actively seek employment in any field that will pay them just to provide for themselves and their family. I do not have respect for those who are happy to sit and claim benefits and purposely mess up arranged job interviews so that they can continue to live off the state. So as far as your hypothetical girlfriend's parents go, they would more than likely respect you a lot more by having a job, unless they are snooty, stuck up so and so's and in which case you shouldn't care less what they think.

I work as a document controller for an engineering company. I can tell you that some of the guys out doing the physical labour (installing pipes/cables etc) are far and away cleverer than the Engineering megabuck penpushers I have to deal with in the office. For example, my project manager (the best paid guy with my company on the job) is IMO "not the brightest pixie in the forest" and is almost impossible to work for.

My brother got 10 A*s at GCSE, 4 A's at A level and an additional 2 A's at AS, graduated from Sheffield with a 1st in Physics (top of his class) and got part time work picking up litter with a temping agency. They genuinely laughed at him when he handed in his CV, but a jobs a job!

This is why I turned to banking after my civil engineering degree. Well that and I found it a bore at the end of my 4th year and my tutor took the fun out of it! Considering there is a lack of civil engineers (or there was when I graduated in 2009) the pay is ridiculous. However, having said that, I would have taken any job going at the time in order to get my foot on the ladder irrespective of pay. At the end of the day Tash, take the job and if you wish, look for something else. I would say, it is better to be in a job that you enjoy than to earn mega bucks and be miserable. You seem to have qualifications so there are options out there :).

Also, is the night out on? Pulled a sickie today and trawled through all the pages! Lets get wellingtoned!! :)

I assume it was for a role in recruitment. It is a very sales intensive environment based on hitting certain targets (people placements and job leads etc). If you can sell, you will earn mega bucks. If not, you will be out on your ear in next to no time!

Very important point, I am on the best money I have ever been on but totally hate what I am doing and the people I work with (the ****ing father in law). Take a job that will make you happy, some things are more important than money!!
