I don't think he would if he kept his sprinters physique.

Your highest possible speed also has a limit because of the proportion of slow and fast fibres in your muscles (which is genetic). Training can get you to your maximum….which is where Saints players can improve...but can't get you beyond your own body's limits.

I used to play football against Darren Campbell. He was very quick but was fits and starts during a game.

Edit: in fact @fran-MLs little camera you May have watched him as he played for Newport for a bit, before i joined them. He also played for Weymouth.

Actually, I’m not even sure that that’s true. Footballers seldom sprint more than 30-40 metres and Bolt was a notoriously slow starter. In fact, one of the things I noticed about Charlie when he first arrived was how quick he was over 5-10 metres. He doesn’t seem to do that any more, but I don’t think it’s a physical thing, they say the first couple of metres are in your head and he just seems to have lost that instinct.

The first 5-10 metres is definitely not physical, but combination of brain and reaction. A player who looks quick is often not, but a fast thinker and so gets a head start and the next action can regularly happen within that first 5-10 metres

Good call! I suspect that our new man may have a few surprises up his sleeve and turn a few heads too. It also must be pretty hard for our forwards to maintain 100% enthusiasm for the game, however long they're on the pitch for as they know full well that as many goals even they can score, our defence will do even better at the other end of the pitch. Must feel like pushing water uphill! Still, it will only take a couple of half decent performances to see the team confidence increase and that could be the turning point............. I hope!!

Earliest ever reference to "Klopp of the Alps" was...10 days ago, so can we drop that yet? I know things that aren't 4-4-2 are still new and exotic to some people (Mark Hughes), but it's not really that special any more. And Graz isn't a mountain village.

Well, he's certainly set his stall out early...

    - charmed the fans
    - told the players how it is, to their face
    - stuck a rocket up them
    - said if people don't want to work hard, they will fall away
    - cancelled the days off
    - upped the training hours
    - worked hard on pressing and tactics
    - dropped established pros to give places to academy lads
    - won his first home game

Keeping us out of the bottom three for the rest of the season will surely be his first priority..............He is certainly prepared it seems to use the academy lads. Never heard of this Johnson fella..............

Following the Under 18's and Under 23's has been a lot more enjoyable than following the first team and it is interesting to see the possibilities that some of them can show. Tyreke is just one of several youngsters that have been putting in some very good performances, early days, todays experience won't do him any harm and will give hope to his team mates.

His debut today sent out a great message to the academy lads - ie. the door is open.

And also the message to the first team that places aren't safe. Smart move.

I can see based on his celebrations and (although early days) his playing style where the comparison to Klopp comes from. I hate Klopp but I do like the way he gets teams to play, so will have to do a trade off if Ralph is similar to him personality wise

Yeah, I really can’t dislike Klopp. He annoys the hell out of me sometimes, plus **** Liverpool and all that; but I find it impossible not to warm to him.

Leaders should be passionate anyway - and Ralph is clearly that. Bit more serious natured than the toothy bespectacled one, I reckon; which is fine by me.
