Just got home thanks to a slight problem with the trains (none at all at Cambridge and no replacement bus service) but worth the trip. Freezing cold in the stadium. My own thoughts on the game are that Chambers & Pennington were very good as a pair today. I still don’t get them receiving the ball square from Gerken but anyway. Of the midfield, Downes was the only 1 who was trying to get his head up & play forward passes. This is the 4th time I’ve seen Nolan and from what I’ve seen, he is not up to championship standard. Freddie put in a shift& got his goal but Roberts is clearly not a centre forward. It must be the no 1 target for PL in Jan to bring in someone to lead the line but I’m going to have a nice glass of something to celebrate
Strange not to be feeling depressed and resigned on a Saturday. A well needed win. 3 points, clean sheet, Sears resurgence resuming. Lots of positives from today. On its own it doesn't signify we've turned a corner and are on our way to safety, however we needed to win this, the impact of not winning would have been a collapse in belief that we could ever beat anyone again. Much tougher tests to come but we've started our run of what is debatably our most favourable run of fixtures yet this season in the best possible way.
Everyone knows it's not enough to bring about a sea change but it's a start and that's not rocket science, you seem determined to argue with almost every point of view put forward often with laughable comments, where exactly did you have a seat today ?
It's only the 'start' of something if we follow it up with regular wins fieldmarshall. At least this time we probably won't sack the manager after his first win so that's some kind of progress I suppose. As for the stupid comment about going to the game, we've been over that one ad nauseam. If it's a problem you are definitely in the wrong place.
No problem for me, I know where I saw the game from to give an informed opinion, whereas you give argumentative opinions and were nowhere to be seen, still I suppose that armchair is really comfortable.
I make you, correct. Clearly we need more wins than one and Lambert can get some better players to stand a chance with the glaring holes Hurst has left us with. Far tougher games to come, but it’s a win and I will take that. Onto the Blades.....hmmmm
Most on here don’t live locally fieldmarshall. I can’t imagine for one moment why you can’t find some local Town fans to talk Town with on a regular basis.
Mick knew how to get a clean sheet. It's rather quite funny people are STILL beating Mick over the head. Hurst had a summer to sign players he saw fit. He failed, spectacularly unfortunately! Risky strategy. Last season we were toilet and Mick STILL got us top half. But that's alright, we'll just bang on about Mick until the end of time. Cannot make it up.
If you want to delude yourself that ALL our current problems are down to Hurst that's up to you but as in most things in life it's not as black and white as that. As you say, couldn't make it up!
Yorkie, friends of mine who are Town fans live in Sweden but they get to games home and away and they are not exactly local are they ? The difference is that they don't make argumentative or idiotic comments about the games they don't get to.
No - you couldn't make up the failure of Hurst this summer and perhaps Evans too. Correct. It's like going around in circles with you and Hampy. Not606s very own Bodger and Badger double act.
Quite funny you can attribute blame to a manager, who guided us to 12th last season, for this season. Logic not your strong suit.
The thing about mick was everything was for the short-term. It was all about surviving season to season without any thought to a long term plan. I don’t want to re-start any arguments but just to say some fans were happy to plod along as we weee doing and some fans wanted a change. I was in the later camp but I can accept others who weren’t. Surely, this is the whole point of a forum that fans are allowed to voice their differing opinions
Agree with the short-term- definitely. Evans is short-term himself ( despite the 5 point plan ) or whatever - so any manager will have to think short-term I'd say. The average manager length is less than two years in modern football - it's broken. Managers don't get time - we could argue Mick got too much, Hurst not enough - whatever we want really. End of the day, I suppose football has no concrete answers / many ways of looking at any said point. We all have one common goal though, we want the best for our club. Hope to god we survive this league, as we'll be 6.5 mill less well off with revenue. League 1 also has a 60% salary cap.................. messy times ahead potentially. C O Y B - please survive.
Surviving season to season was definitely Mick’s mantra, which was understandable considering his budget. For the record, I think Mick did more good than bad here (despite my criticisms of him). Having that play off season was obviously a high point for us, as fans, over the past several years. We usually picked up good results and, bar the almost-disastrous 2016/17 season, we usually punched above our weight under Mick. Where he went wrong, in my opinion, was his failure to build any long-term identity versatility with the club. Okay, he didn’t have a good budget, but you can still coach players a more technical style of football required to prosper in this division. We even struggled playing effective, direct football over the last couple of years. Lawrence, Bart, and Waghorn’s form papered over the negatives and decline of the club. I think Mick saddled this squad with too many average, technically limited players, and that’s a factor on our struggles this season. How many of his old guard have struggled this season? Okay, everyone has, to a point, but Chambers, Bart, Knudsen, Spence, and, before Lambert’s arrival, Skuse, have looked shadows of their former selves. Under Mick, we typically had one or two stand-out performers and good technical players in our squad. We sold two of them in the summer and failed to replicate our annual success in the loan market. What we’re left with is an average squad that was unfortunately saddled with several more average players thanks to Hurst’s signings in the summer. As far as Mick’s responsibility goes, I think it stops there. Evans and Hurst should be seen as the two main culprits, in my opinion.
I didn't make comments about the game fieldmarshall, although I did watch from afar. In fact it's such an elementary point that you are not able to grasp that your intellect does have to be called into question. If your friends in Sweden have that much wealth and free time good for them, most of us don't.
