Paul Merson
I can't see Man Utd having a go. This is where it disappoints me - it's Man Utd, going to Liverpool, come on have a go. The back four against Liverpool's front three is the whole battle. How can that back four, an average back four, keep out a majorly, majorly talented front three?

Joel Matip injury update

Joel Matip is set to undergo surgery after suffering a fractured collarbone during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Napoli on Tuesday night.

The defender landed awkwardly following an aerial challenge in the closing seconds of the game, in which the Reds secured a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Matip was taken to hospital following the fixture and further assessment deemed an operation is required.

Early indications suggest the centre-back is facing a spell of of up to six weeks out of action, though that is dependent on how Matip responds to his treatment and rehabilitation programmes.

Ideally we would be looking to rest Van Dijk. So what do we do, Fabinho as back up now? Youth player?

So you don't think Klopp would be rotating and resting him over this busy period?
I don't think he can afford to. Every game is crucial.
Even if we had someone decent to rotate him with (which we don't) his presence is vital in terms of leadership and organisation.

So you don't think Klopp would be rotating and resting him over this busy period?

Nope. Matip and Gomez our. Who you planning on playing Lovren and Fabinho? Possibly give him a rest if game is one and move Fab there but we’re severly lacking options with 2 injuries now so for the next 6 weeks he’s gonna be starting every game.

The fact he played every game when he had his slight hip injury just shows that klopp wants him in and only something serious will mean he sits out.

Sorry, my point was more i expect klopp would have been desperate to rest him, but now he has no choice

SAVING ENERGY FOR SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON.

Jurgen Klopp’s shifted their tactical setup this season and they don’t press as much and as intensely as they did in previous seasons”
