That is ridiculous. Take out 150 odd on Govt payroll and it is 117 to 60 odd. She can't stay after that.

  2. She’s royally fecked to be sure, but careful SD - you’re spouting JRM’s diatribe from earlier <laugh>... and on that point, his apparent reluctance to accept a 68/32% result runs contradictory to his insistence that 52/48 is the Will of the People. I think his title aspirations may well have been dealt a fatal blow (thankfully).

But how does it play out now?
Not only is May unable to get her Brexit deal through Parliament, she wouldn't get anything else through without the support of the DUP and with a number of rogue rebels in her party who want her out.
Something has to give before 29th March. It's inconceivable that we can just drift to a no deal Brexit with a government effectively unable to govern for the next three and a half months.

David's another Clegg/Macron waiting to happen

The best modern example of a centrist party leader (by that I mean somebody who was a centrist, not somebody pretending to be one) was Charles Kennedy, given the policies the Lib Dems supported when he was leader and was a sound strategist not just in terms of planning elections but also making himself and therefore the party look appealing with his TV appearances - although that didn't stop the whispering campaign that saw Menzies Campbell undo all his work in a matter of months and pave the way for Nick Clegg

    I disagree.

I think David Milliband would be an excellent leader of a middle road party.

For me, capitalism is vital - it’s the wealth producing mechanism - but with an acceptable face, to use a weather worn phrase.

The party I envisage would be a a capitalist one, but with a far more acceptable social face,

One small piece of advice for the BBC: if you're going to try and edit what people say to fit your story, don't do it in a way where the edit is painfully obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes

Meanwhile, the bloke who was tipped to be the Dire leader's successor (in spite his apparent failure to understand the UK is an island) believes that posting a graph showing that workers are significantly poorer than they were a decade ago is something to crow about...

He is really special isn't he. Wages not even back to 2010 when the bastards got into power. We all remember the slogan - No wage rise for 10 years? No?

It's worse than that. Average weekly wages are just that - averaged across what everybody earns. But as long as the highest paid continue to get an increasingly large part of the total (which has been a trend for years and unlikely to change) then the average is skewed. I would like to see graphs such as the proportion of the workforce on minimum wage over time and the proportion of the workforce on zero hours contracts.

She will play for time, then as late as possible put her deal to Parliament. There is no way that she will call a second referendum, so she will let it be known to all and sundry that if it is voted down, she will let the people decide by calling a general election. Then many tories who might lose their seats may think again. She has already said that she will not lead the Tories into another election, so there would be a Tory leadership battle as well. The EU have already said that they would allow an extension to Brexit in the event of a general election.

She has to put her deal in front of parliament by 21st Jan the latest. If ( when) it’s kicked into the long grass, parliament then has the whip hand in deciding what happens next.

  17. Comedian Mark Steele’s Independent column today is a hoot. This is his prediction for Parliament in February. <laugh>

“The DUP will claim the latest offer from the EU is possessed by the devil and smuggle an exorcist into Prime Minister’s Questions, causing Amber Rudd to cover Anna Soubry in green sick; fifteen members of the cabinet will escape by disguising themselves as the Wu-Tang Clan; an opinion poll will show Isis have a 9 per cent lead, then Michael Gove will go on Radio 4 to say “we are proud to have brought stability to the country”.

  18. Aggers starts a Twitter spat with Gary Lineker, criticising the latters use of social media to air political views - (incorrectly as it happens) suggesting that Lineker would be breaching his BBC Contract for impartiality.

If the BBC were to start addressing and enforcing political impartiality in their organisation, I think that they would probably have their hands full with many of their own Political Editors and Commentators - roles that do have impartiality clapses! Start with the likes of John Humphreys, Andrew Neil and Laura (how the feck did I ever get this gig) Kuennsberg. <laugh>

I noticed that almost 50% of Americans polled suggest Trump should not be impeached for being the biggest crook since Al Capone(?).What is it with these Americans? Are they crooked also? Who says cheats don't prosper?
It was also mentioned that if a lot of stuff had been known before 2016,Trump would have won anyway. Actually,he did not win the vote.Hillary had more votes. But she lost out to the Judiciary Committee, whatever the hell that is!!!!
