I've been on this forum for a while now and I actually cannot remember any of our fans saying 'This year is our year.' Can anybody else remember a Liverpool fan ever saying that? I know I can't...
There was one... I think his name was Wakka? Oh.. I remember it was "This year is our year if we get rid of Lucas."
I'm not realy that bothered to be honest. Gerrard has stated he wasn't happy with the game time. We move on.
I think the problem here is that supporters of teams like Chelsea have no real sense of what it is to operate as a TEAM. I would have no problem in acknowledging that the talent within Man City at present outstrips what we have currently at LFC, but that is to miss the point entirely about what is being built at Anfield at the moment by KK, Comolli and Fenway et al. When people come together as an LFC team and understand not only what has to happen and how it will happen, but WHY they have come to LFC in the first place (see Bellamy's recent statements for details), you start to create something that money cannot buy - real COMMITMENT. It's too easy to sneer about it because at places like Chelsea there is no legacy, no heritage. No real understanding that durable success cannot be bought like a commodity. It takes time: which is why Torres has been and will continue to be a disaster for CFC. Nobody had the vision to see Torres' latent potential, as Rafa did - they (Abramovich) just thought they could 'buy' his services, like some kind of ageing hooker. Man City may be different this year, because of the sheer scale of the investment and the sense is that their strategy might be more medium to long-term. However, I can't help thinking it won't take long before the sheiks start to get frustrated and get rid of Mancini after they fail to win the Premiership/Champions League this season. Why? - because they're used to getting what they want - and feel that success can be BOUGHT. Pure and simple. It's been said plenty of times on this board, but I think we all need to pinch ourselves occasionally and remind ourselves how lucky we are that we have found in FSG an investor that not only 'gets' the club (as it did with the heritage of the Red Sox), but deeply understands the culture of what they have invested in. More importantly, they have recognised that it's actually the CULTURE of the club that provides the value to their investment. Abramovich just wouldn't understand that concept if it hit him in the face.... So, to get back on track, good luck, Raul. You will be missed. Maybe we didn't treat you with enough kid gloves, who's to say? But if the lure of Chelsea (and 'success') was just too much for you, so be it. I, for one, am happy to be as excited as a small kid by what's in the pipeline at LFC, not just because of what I think I might be possible, but because I have absolute confidence in KK sorting out how it should be done in a way that is in keeping with 'the Liverpool Way.' That's why there's a buzz on this board at the moment. Not because of any guarantee of success in the short-term. But because we've rediscovered our belief. GKRK.
"I think the problem here is that supporters of teams like Chelsea have no real sense of what it is to operate as a TEAM." WTF. You really are talking out your Backside. Get a grip, you mean only Pool an MU supporters know what a team is. Re-write that crap now before you have the entire forum on your back.
To be fair I know plenty of Liverpool fans who say it every year although not on this forum. I'd be more worried if you wasn't saying, you've got to believe it's your year if you support the team, it's part of being a fan. Still, I enjoy laughing at them at the end of the season
One day, Eric ,one day, we just might make you laugh out of the other side of your face. Seriously though, you're right- what fan doesn't hope for the best for his team at the beginning of the season? Most on here though are realistic in our expectations, and there's a distinct difference between hope and expectation. However, I do believe we have a better chance of getting closer to Chelsea this year than we have for a while, and Raul may find it's not quite the step up he was expecting. We shall see...
I have read quite a few threads that have Arsenal, Spuds and Chelsea fans saying they think we have a squad full of average players, it doesn't bother me at all. We have nothing to be smug about at the moment but IF we were to finish above any of them then we will have great reason to be egotistical. It's OK to be a Spurs supporter at the moment though because they've only played the top two teams in the PL at this moment. Losing 3-0 and 5-1 (at home) are still worthy performances to get top 5.
chelsea are so new to the champions league they think you get a trophy just for getting to the final - if they do, how come liverpool didn't get one in 2007
lardfool proves himself a lackwit..... if he can name a few occasions whe nthis mythic 5 at the back apporach was used it'd be nice to back his really poor point.
What an utter numbnuts. It's quite breathtaking ignorance to class all fans of a certain club as being unable to understand that it's about a team and not about 11 great individuals. All clubs have idiots, WUM,s and intelligent fans who have a good understanding of the game, and yes that even includes Liverpool. Jose had a philosophy that he brought to the Bridge and that was one of teamwork and that no one was bigger or more important than the team. It was something he talked about frequently, and the need for a smaller squad so that there was more team harmony. Good Kop Red Kop is talking out of his arse. So Torres poor form is down to the fact that there is no 'legacy' or 'heritage' at Stamford Bridge. There's me thinking it's down to the slow build up play of Chelsea, the lack of a creative midfielder and no real width or service for Torres coupled with the pressure and lack of confidence. Again Good Kop Red Kop is talking out of his arse.
One thing you'll find a Raul is that when its a tough tackling game for getting stuck in he'll be as far away from the rough stuff as possible,he's a ****bag when the boots start flying but the rest of his game aint bad.
Torres has a lack of goals because he isn't playing with Gerrard anymore. Drogba is still a top class player and your team is set to play with him, but you choose to continue playing Torres. I do agree that Chelsea were a great team under Jose, but at the moment I don't think you play as much of a team. Saying that though, if Boas is given time, that will change. And whether a team is average or not is a pointless argument. I think we can all agree that Utd's midfield of Cleverly and Anderson doesn't scare anyone, let alone their untested young defence and keeper. In my opinion Chelsea are quite average at the moment and playing poor, that will change eventually I'm sure. However it is pointless talking about it as you think our team is average.
